Fujitsu Personal Systems to Resell HyperPAD Development Tools for Pen Applications

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — June 2, 1992 — Fujitsu Personal Systems Inc. (previously Poqet Computer Corp.) Tuesday announced that it will resell HyperPAD for Pen Computers, a pen-aware version of the popular object-oriented MS-DOS development tool from Brightbill-Roberts & Company Ltd.

HyperPAD for Pen Computers is the first application builder designed to run under the Nestor PenShell operating environment used in PoqetPad, the 1.2 pound hand-held pen computer from Fujitsu Personal Systems.

HyperPAD for Pen Computers includes the PADtalk scripting language, one of the most powerful and easy to use programming languages available for MS-DOS personal computers. Using PADTalk, applications developers can rapidly build applications that are automatically compiled to memory before execution, enabling delivery of powerful, yet compact applications that make maximum use of the memory available in small, super portable systems.

''Many pen computing hardware and software companies are asking customers to deal with entirely new operating systems and development tools, making the adoption of these systems costly and time consuming,'' said Ann Marie McGee, director of marketing for Fujitsu Personal Systems Inc. (FPSI). ''With HyperPAD for Pen Computers, value-added resellers and corporate development groups with little or no experience in pen computing now have a tool they can use to quickly create applications and realize the benefits of pen-based computing today, not at the end of a long training and development cycle.''

HyperPAD for Pen Computers recognizes block-printed characters and numbers as data, using NestorWriter character recognition software. It can also capture graphics as ''ink'', allowing diagrams to be annotated with field collected data. These new features have been added to the proven capability of HyperPAD to build GUI-like forms with pull-down menus and dialog boxes that make building and running applications remarkably easy.

''Our goal with HyperPAD for Pen Computers is to help end-users and application developers manage information and data easily and to help organizations protect their investment in standard PC applications,'' said Steven Brightbill, president of Brightbill-Roberts. ''Using HyperPAD, developers are assured that the applications they build can run on any DOS-based PC, including pen computers and stationary systems.''

HyperPAD for Pen Computers includes NBrowser, a royalty-free run-time module. This allows developers to distribute applications throughout an organization without the cost of run-time modules or the administrative expense of a site license.

HyperPAD for Pen Computers will be distributed by Fujitsu Personal Systems Inc. for use with the PoqetPad. Available in July, the development tools are priced at $595. For developer information, contact FPSI at 408/764-9310. End users can contact the company at 408/764-9443 for more information.
