Epson, Norand, and Symbol Technologies License PenRight!’s Pen-Based Operating Environment for Mobile Hand-Helds

FREMONT, Calif. — July 29, 1996 — PenRight! Corporation, a premier provider of pen-based computer operating environments and software development tools, today announced that hand-held manufacturers Epson America, Inc., Norand Corporation, and Symbol Technologies, Inc. have licensed PenRight!'s operating environment for their pen-based, mobile computing hardware platforms.

Under these licensing agreements, these manufacturers are now qualified to market, distribute and resell PenRight!'s cross platform, (Windows, DOS, and DOS Protected mode) pen-based operating environment. Epson, Norand and Symbol join a growing number of pen-based computer manufacturers licensing PenRight!'s proven operating environment including Fujitsu Personal Systems and Telxon Corporation.

By licensing PenRight!'s operating environment, hardware manufacturers can instantly gain access to the thousands of Windows and DOS based, vertical applications created within PenRight!'s development environment. Over 1,200 ISVs, System Integrators, VARs, and corporate developers have created applications within the PenRight! environment for a wide range of vertical industries, such as route management, health care, utilities, retailing, pharmaceuticals, public safety, and other mobile data collection fields.

By the year 2000, Mobile Insights estimates sales of mobile tablets to reach $ 2.2 billion a year.
