Puma Technology to Preview New Version of Intellisync Software for Palm Computing Platform Products at PC Expo
NEW YORK — June 15, 1998 — Puma Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:PUMA), will provide PC Expo attendees with a first-hand look at the new synchronization capabilities of Puma's popular Intellisync(R) software for 3Com's Palm Computing(R) platform products.
The defacto standard in synchronization solutions, Puma's upcoming version 3.0 of Intellisync for the PalmPilot(TM) connected organizer will now provide integrated e-mail synchronization, significantly improved Microsoft Outlook 97/98 support and performance, and expanded support for PC-based Personal Information Management (PIM) and groupware applications, among its new features. The forthcoming Intellisync offering will be available directly from Puma or at computer retail stores nationwide for $ 69.95 later this summer. Puma will demonstrate this preview 3.0 version of Intellisync in the Palm Computing Developer Pavillion (Booth No. 3962).
"3Com has focused on delivering innovative handheld devices that let users easily access their most critical information," said Mark Bercow, vice president of strategic alliances and platform development for Palm Computing, a 3Com company. "We are pleased with the positive response from our customers, who have made the Palm Computing platform such a monumental success. Intellisync from Puma Technology, with its robust synchronization support between Palm Computing platform products and a wide range of desktop and groupware PC applications, has been an important ingredient in that success."
The new features in version 3.0 of Intellisync build upon the benefits consumers have experienced with Intellisync to date. Intellisync will continue to provide a powerful solution derived from two years of real-world user feedback that delivers the accuracy and convenience required by mobile professionals. This lets them keep their most important information, including calendars, contacts, notes, to-dos, and now e-mail, up-to-date on both their PCs and Palm Computing platform products. For instance, Intellisync's custom filtering allows the user to control exactly what information is to be synchronized even from large databases, thereby accelerating the process and optimizing the limited storage capabilities found in most handheld devices. Also, accurate conflict detection/resolution and field-level synchronization helps avoid duplicate records that the user would otherwise have to sort out manually. Further, the confirmation prompt dialog lets the user see exactly what will be added, changed, and deleted before it happens. And, convenient field mappings place correct application fields into correct device fields according to user choice.
The current Intellisync for the PalmPilot connected organizer version 2.03 uniquely supports a broad range of popular PIM and group scheduling software applications, including Microsoft Outlook 97/98, Microsoft Schedule+ 7.0/7.0a/7.5, Lotus Organizer 2.1/97/GS, Day-Timer Organizer 2.1/98, Goldmine 3.2/4.0, NetManage ECCO 4.0, Novell GroupWise 5.2, On Technology Meeting Maker, Oracle InterOffice 4.1, Starfish Sidekick 95/97/98, Internet Sidekick, and Symantec ACT!3.07/3.08. The upcoming version 3.0 will add support for Lotus Notes 4.5/4.6, Lotus Organizer 4.1 Premium Edition, Symantec ACT!4.0, and other applications.
INTELLISYNC EXTENDS PALM COMPUTING PLATFORM PRODUCTS
Intellisync helps extend the usefulness of the range of Palm Computing platform products, including the Palm III(TM), PalmPilot Personal or Professional Edition, Pilot 1000/5000, and IBM Workpad(TM) PC Companion devices, through support for the broadest array of PIM and groupware applications used everyday by corporations and consumers alike. Intellisync is the engine driving intelligent synchronization between these popular devices and leading PC-based PIM and corporate groupware software applications. Puma's patented Data Synchronization Extensions Technology (DSM Technology(TM), at the core of every Intellisync offering, provides advanced synchronization capabilities such as field mapping, filtering and conflict resolution. Not only do these features enable the most seamless user experience, they also help to optimize the device itself.
"The popularity of 3Com's Palm Computing platform products and Intellisync's ability to enhance them to support applications like Microsoft Outlook has continued to grow," said Puma President and CEO Brad Rowe. "Puma looks forward to exhibiting the significant combination of these devices and the forthcoming version of Intellisync to the attendees of PC Expo. We have made it our primary focus to intelligently move and synchronize end users' information in a way that is quick, easy and painless. With the new features and application support in version 3.0 of Intellisync, Puma continues to successfully provide people with a means to seamlessly keep their professional and social lives in sync at all times."
