BeamLink 2.0 Software Instantly Delivers Wireless Text-to-Voice Messages from Palm V Connected Organizers
DALLAS — March 31, 1999 — JP Systems Inc., a leading global software and systems developer, today announced the availability of its messaging software, BeamLink(TM) 2.0, for users of Palm III(TM), Palm IIIx(TM) and Palm V(TM) connected organizers from Palm Computing, Inc., a 3Com company. BeamLink 2.0 is the first software ever to enable infrared communications on the Palm V organizer through a two-way pager that can also serve as a wireless modem. This software works in conjunction with Glenayre's AccessLink II(TM) two-way pager and the SkyTel(R) nationwide paging network. Users compose messages on the Palm Computing organizer and then point or "beam" the information to the AccessLink II pager. These messages then are sent instantly from the two-way pager, over the SkyTel paging network, to any telephone, pager or Internet E-mail destination.
"BeamLink 2.0 software is better than a follow-me message forwarding feature because PDA users now can send messages simultaneously to telephones, E-mail addresses and pagers," said Dayakar Puskoor, chief executive officer of JP Systems. "We recognized that the majority of consumers have not yet consolidated their communications tools into one mobile device. Given the surge of PDA users, it made sense for us to incorporate landline and wireless telephones as options for delivery of PDA user messages." "Combining BeamLink 2.0 with our text-to-voice conversion service allows PDA users to reach telephone users in a convenient format," said John Stupka, president and chief executive officer of SkyTel Communications Inc. "In addition, confirmation of message delivery and acceptance automatically are sent to the PDA user from our network."
"As a stand-alone product, the AccessLink II provides the most advanced paging technology to the mobile communications user," said Gary Hermansen, president and general manager of Glenayre's Wireless Access Group. "The pager coupled with JP Systems' leading-edge software and the robustness of the SkyTel network now gives users of the Palm V organizer the flexibility and convenience of anytime, anywhere wireless communication." BeamLink 2.0 software currently is available through JP Systems and retails for $ 49.95. Users of BeamLink 1.0 are entitled to a complimentary upgrade to version 2.0. JP Systems also offers a "bundled" package with an AccessLink II pager and the BeamLink software at the discounted price of $ 239.95. A monthly SkyTel service account initiation is included, with monthly billing starting at $ 24.95. Interested persons may order the software or bundled packages online at www.jpsystems.com or toll-free at 888/665-2460. Software developer kits (SDK) also are available via JP Systems' Web site for developers seeking to design custom applications.
