Security Dynamics Partner with 3Com to Use Palm for SecurID Network Authentication
April 1, 1999 — Security Dynamics Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: SDTI) today further extended its family of strong authentication products by introducing SecurID for the Palm Computing Platform, the world's most popular handheld computing products, including the new Palm V, the PalmPilot, PalmPilot Professional and the Palm III connected organizers.
SecurID for the Palm Computing Platform transforms the Palm device into a SecurID token that can be used to positively identify users and prevent authorized access to networks and systems. The new product works in conjunction with Security Dynamics' ACE/Server authentication management software to ensure that only authorized users gain access to network files, applications and communications, and eliminates the need for users to carry a separate SecurID token, key fob or smart card. "This latest SecurID product reflects our commitment to continuous technological innovation and to providing customers with the authentication alternatives that meet their needs," said Scott Schnell, senior vice president of marketing for RSA Data Security and Security Dynamics. "Security Dynamics, the industry leader in user authentication, and Palm Computing, the industry leader in handheld devices, are working together to create to the secure tools industry needs to be more productive and stay competitive."
The SecurID product family offers the industry's broadest choice of strong authentication solutions available anywhere. In addition to the new Palm platform, SecurID is available in a range of form factors, including hardware tokens, key fobs, smart cards and software tokens.
"Palm computing devices are emerging as a flexible, versatile platform for building value-added applications and we are delighted that Security Dynamics is committed to providing their industry leading technology on our popular platform," said Mark Bercow, vice president of strategic alliances and platform development for Palm Computing, Inc., a 3Com company. 'We're very encouraged and excited by the opportunities we see to make Palm devices an enterprise level security solution with the strong authentication that businesses need."
"This release is yet further proof of Security Dynamics commitment to a broader range of athentication devices, providing customers with the choice of authentication to meet their varied needs" said Graham Welch, UK Country Manager, Security Dynamics.
Today, there are more than 3 million Palm Computing devices in use worldwide. Once used strictly as "pocket organizers," these devices increasingly are being used to connect directly to enterprise networks. As these devices are used increasingly in sensitive networked applications, the security provided by strong user authentication is becoming more critical to enterprise users.
Unlike other vendors offering authentication solutions for Palm Computing devices, Security Dynamics, with its proven SecurID, ACE/Server and ACE/Agent technologies, is the acknowledged industry leader for providing strong user authentication on an enterprise scale. SecurID solutions provide strong security and extensive management facilities across a broad range of platforms.
