Palm Computing Issues Statement on EgyptAir Flight 990 Disaster

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — November 1, 1999 — It is with great sorrow that the employees of 3Com Corporation (Nasdaq:COMS) and Palm Computing, Inc., a 3Com company, acknowledge the loss of Kurt Schwenk, a senior business development manager for the company. Schwenk, along with several family members and friends, were aboard EgyptAir Flight 990 on route to Cairo, Egypt, when the plane went down early Sunday morning off the coast of Massachusetts.

According to published reports, there were no survivors.

Schwenk was traveling on personal vacation with his girlfriend, her parents, her roommate, Schwenk's mother, and Schwenk's sister and her husband.

Schwenk joined Palm Computing in February of this year, where he quickly became a strong contributor, noted for his energy and intelligence. He reported to Mark Bercow, vice president of strategic alliances and platform development.

"Those who knew Kurt will remember him as a man of incredible integrity, a remarkable high work ethic, and, most importantly, a fine gentleman and good friend," Bercow said. "He will be sorely missed by all he touched. Our hearts and prayers go out to Kurt, and to his family and many friends."

Said Alan Kessler, president of Palm Computing, "The loss of Kurt Schwenk and all the others on board EgyptAir Flight 990 is a shocking and terrible tragedy that affects so many people. We offer our thoughts and sympathy to the many who have been touched by this tragedy."
