Software Publishing Corp. Announces Development Plans for Pen Computing
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — July 16, 1991 — Software Publishing Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCO) announced development plans for pen computing at the Pen Computing 1991 conference being held in Burlingame, Calif., this week.
The company recently formed a project team to develop application software for GO Computer's PenPoint operating system.
''Software Publishing believes that pen computing is ideally suited for people who haven't been able to use computers in the past,'' said Richard Frank, vice president and chief technical officer. ''We're excited because it broadens the computer market to include mobile professionals by providing them the same presentation and document processing capabilities as their desk-bound colleagues.''
Software Publishing chose the object-oriented PenPoint operating system because of its efficient use of memory. This allows major business applications to run in significantly less memory than on a desktop PC.
''I'm pleased that Software Publishing — a leader in desktop applications — is announcing its commitment to PenPoint,'' said Jerry Kaplan, chairman and co-founder of GO. ''Software Publishing is developing innovative, pen-centric applications which take advantage of PenPoint's simplicity and ease of use.''
Software Publishing's project team is also investigating Windows for Pen enchancements to the company's exisiting products. Software Publishing's current version of Professional Writer PLUS, a Windows document processor, runs without modification, under Windows for Pen. It will be demonstrated at the Software Publishing booth during the conference.
Software Publishing Corp. is a leading international supplier of business productivity software for IBM personal computers and compatibles.
