Slate Demonstrates Value of Pen Applications in ”Mobile Exhibit”

SAN JOSE, Calif. — October 2, 1991 — Slate Corp. and Seybold Seminars have joined together to explore ''The Evolving Process of Communication,'' the theme of the sixth Seybold Computer Publishing Expo.

The Expo, with began Tuesday, is well known for its up-to-date publishing information and features exhibits by hundreds of companies on the cutting edge of publishing technology. Slate is demonstrating PenBook, its electronic book software, announced Tuesday during the opening session; and PenApps, its application development system for pen-computers.

Slate is using a new form of product demonstration during this conference. Instead of having a standard booth set up, Slate is utilizing the first roving booth. Twenty to 40 exhibitors will be equipped with pen-computers running PenApps and PenBook, and will circulate among the conference participants.

With the help of PenBook, they will be prepared to give directions to specific places within the conference and descriptions of each exhibitor.

Slate's PenBook is the first electronic book software to combine the inituitive feel of paper books with the power of computers. PenApps which was announced in January, enables pen-based software developers to accelerate the construction of custom applications for data capturing and viewing.

Jonathan Seybold, president of Seybold Seminars, said, ''I believe the use of pen-based computers will change the way people use computers. The possibilities for applications are limitless, and will truly mobilize the computing industry.''

Slate Corp, headquartered in Scottsdale, Ariz., was founded in February 1990 to develop software applications for pen-based computers. Slate shipped PenApps, the first applications software package for the PenPoint operating system, on March 11. Note to Editors: PenApps and PenBook are trademarks of Slate Corp.
