Wireless Access and BellSouth MobileComm Announce Strategic Relationship

NEW ORLEANS — September 27, 1993 — Wireless Access Inc. and BellSouth MobileComm Monday announced a strategic alliance under which the two companies have agreed to provide Wireless Access Inc.'s PCMCIA messaging card, the AccessCard, through MobileComm's distribution channels.

The two companies will work together to provide paging services for mobile platforms based on DOS, GO PenPoint, Geoworks and Winpad operating systems.

"The PCMCIA format is emerging as the enabling technology for wireless messaging," said Steve Pazian, president and chief executive officer, BellSouth MobileCommm. "The unique antenna and technology integration of the AccessCard and the ability to add specific software, will enable MobileComm to provide advanced messaging to portable devices in the emerging mobile communications market," said Dr. Alain Briancon, executive director of products and services for BellSouth MobileComm.

Initially, BellSouth services and the AccessCard will be available for the HP 100LX platforms. However, the two companies will also roll out services for other popular mobile platforms.

The AccessCard is an all-in-one PCMCIA messaging card that provides high performance, low power consumption and, for the first time, completely integrates the antenna into the PCMCIA form factor.
