Metrowerks Ships New CodeWarrior-Based Family of Products; Includes Java Support
SAN JOSE, Calif. — May 13, 1996 — Metrowerks, Inc. (TSE,ME:MWK), the leading provider of Macintosh software development tools, today announced the availability of a new series of products based on its award-winning CodeWarrior line.
Metrowerks' latest CodeWarrior-based products include:
– Full support for Sun Microsystems Java programming language. – A new CodeWarrior Gold 9 release and four new products designed to expand the market for Metrowerks' software development tools. – A host of new product extensions including support for the MIPS family of microprocessors.
Most Complete Java support
Metrowerks now supports the four major languages used in developing desktop applications: Java, Pascal, C and C++. All languages are supported within the CodeWarrior integrated development environment (IDE). Metrowerks' implementation of Java is highlighted by the following:
– Stability and Speed Metrowerks' version of Java is based on its PowerPlant application framework. By mapping system-specific pieces of the Java runtime to PowerPlant, the implementation becomes more robust and easier to update as Java continues to evolve. Metrowerks' Java Byte Code Interpreter has been highly optimized for PowerPC performance, with portions being hand-coded in Power PC assembler.
– Full CodeWarrior IDE Support Java is directly accessible from the CodeWarrior IDE which includes full source-level debugger support for Java. Metrowerks' "MetroNUB" debugging technology allows programmers to access both source code and Java byte codes easily.
– Java Help
CodeWarrior Java products include an electronic edition of "Learn Java on the Macintosh" by Barry Boone with Dave Mark, six Apple Guide files featuring interactive tutorials, online reference material, and sample applets and applications.
– Free Microsoft Internet Explorer Microsoft's Internet Explorer Web browser is included free of charge. MS Internet Explorer can be used to access the Web and view html-formatted documentation.
