Metrowerks Announces Development Tools Support for Microsoft Windows CE
AUSTIN, Texas — April 28, 1997 — Microsoft and Metrowerks Sign Agreement, Metrowerks to Ship CodeWarrior for Windows CE
Metrowerks Inc. (NASDAQ:MTWKF)(TSE/ME:MWK), one of the world's leading providers of software development tools, Monday announced that the company has entered into an agreement with Microsoft(R) to offer development tools support for the new Windows(R) CE operating system from Microsoft Corp.
Metrowerks intends to offer support for Windows CE within it's line of CodeWarrior(R) products for embedded and consumer electronics software development.
Initial CodeWarrior support for Windows CE will target the NEC(R) VR Series(TM) of embedded microprocessors. Metrowerks intends to offer support for Windows CE within it's previously announced software development environment for this processor, namely CodeWarrior for NEC Embedded Systems. Additionally, Metrowerks will offer a separate product dedicated entirely to Windows CE development, CodeWarrior for Windows CE.
Both Windows CE product offerings will ship with the CodeWarrior x86 compilers and linkers, as well as the libraries for Windows CE development (licensed from Microsoft). The x86 compiler/linker can be used in conjunction with the WinCE libraries on WindowsNT(TM) to produce a simulation environment (running Windows CE executables on the desktop).
With the inclusion of the Win32 libraries for desktop software development, users will be able to develop both the desktop component of a Windows CE application as well as the embedded component which is to run on the Windows CE hardware platform. Each CodeWarrior product supporting Windows CE will include full source-level debugging of executables running on the Windows CE hardware platform.

Pricing and Availability Metrowerks intends to deliver Windows CE support sometime before the end of calendar year 1997. CodeWarrior for NEC Embedded Systems will retail for an SRP of $ US699. Pricing for CodeWarrior for Windows CE has yet to be determined.
