AUSTIN, Texas — October 27, 1997 — Metrowerks Inc. (NASDAQ: MTWKF, TSE/ME:MWK) announces the release of CodeWarrior Professional 2, the second release of CodeWarrior that combines Windows(R)-hosted and Mac(R)-hosted desktop tools into a single unified software development package.

CodeWarrior Professional 2 is shipping with IDE 2.1, the newest version of Metrowerks award-winning integrated development environment that includes Java tools that are fully compliant with Java 1.1.

"Our commitment to providing our customers with the most useful set of software tools on the market means we work constantly to improve what we feel is already the most flexible and cost effective all-in-one software development environment on the market," said Jean Belanger, chairman and chief executive officer, Metrowerks.

CodeWarrior IDE 2.1 Among the many new improvements, the CodeWarrior IDE 2.1 features:

– project files that are interchangeable between Windows and Mac

– the ability to compare two source files, see the differences graphically, and merge changes

– version 2.0 of Metrowerks' C/C++ compiler, which supports namespaces and has improved template support

– a "current target" column in the project window that:

– shows the programmer whether a file belongs to the current target, and

– lets the programmer easily add or remove any file from the current target

– a code browser that works across targets and subprojects

– subproject caching that speeds multi-project builds and supports browsing across subprojects

This powerful IDE combines a sophisticated project manager, source-code editor, and multi-language code browser together with advanced, highly optimizing compilers and linkers, and it supports development for a variety of target processors and operating systems, using plug-in compilers and linkers from third-party vendors and other CodeWarrior products.

CodeWarrior Professional 2, like all CodeWarrior products, also features the CodeWarrior two-machine source-level debugger which plugs seamlessly into the IDE. The Windows 95/NT(R) hosted version also features support for debugging Java in Internet Explorer 4.0.

CodeWarrior Professional 2 Java Support CodeWarrior Professional 2 supports Java software application development and is fully compliant with JDK 1.1. The full suite of Java tools includes a fast Java compiler and linker, and assembler, all integrated into both the Windows 95/NT toolset and the Mac OS toolset.

For PowerPC and 68K platforms, CodeWarrior Professional 2 also includes the Metrowerks high performance Java Just-In-Time (JIT) compiler.
