Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd. Joins General Magic Alliance

NEW YORK — November 30, 1994 — Sanyo announced today that it has joined the leading communication software Alliance headed by General Magic and will make a capital investment in the new company. The General Magic Alliance, which includes the leading electronics, computer and communication companies, is focused on creating a global standard based on General Magic's Telescript(TM) and Magic Cap(TM) software technologies. In joining the General Magic Alliance, Sanyo will bring its own interactive and multimedia-based products to the relationship.

"Sanyo plans to continue manufacturing and marketing multimedia products as more businesses and consumers access the infobahn," said Dr. Yukinori Kuwano, director and general manager of Sanyo's R&D headquarters. "The General Magic Alliance is an unprecedented show of industry cooperation and support to create global standards and Sanyo is proud to be a part of this effort."

Sanyo's plans to market and develop multimedia-based products and interactive services complement General Magic's vision and technology for personal intelligent communications. The Magic Cap(TM) software platform allows users to integrate electronic mail, fax, telephone, paging, infrared beaming, and other methods of communicating. The technology is built into personal communicators and allows software developers to build a new class of personalized services centered on communications.

Telescript(TM) communication technology is an object-oriented, remote programming language designed to enable the creation of electronic "agents" capable of navigating the world of electronic services and diverse computer systems to perform everything from sorting and organizing electronic correspondence to monitoring stock activity and shopping for goods and services.

General Magic was founded in May 1990. Its mission is to create personal intelligent communication products and services by developing and licensing technology to equipment manufacturers, network and information service providers, and software and entertainment companies. General Magic Alliance members to date are: Sanyo, AT&T, Apple, Cable & Wireless, France Telecom, Fujitsu, Matsushita, Mitsubishi, Motorola, NTT, Northern Telecom, Oki, Philips, Sony, and Toshiba.
