Mobile MLS Application Available on Magic Cap Platform; New Solution for Realtors Puts Property Listings at their Fingertips
SUNNYVALE, Calif. — June 12, 1995 — General Magic, Inc. (NASDAQ:GMGC) today announced the availability by Mobile Products of its Mobile MLS software in the Orange County, California area, with availability for additional areas nationwide expected later this year. Mobile MLS provides intelligent, portable access to property information from Multiple Listing Services (MLS), the leading property listing service for the more than 8,000 realtors in Orange County and the more than 1.8 million licensed real estate brokers and agents nationwide.
Using Mobile MLS on a Sony Magic Link personal communicator, real estate agents can selectively retrieve and download property listings through the Magic Link's built-in modem. The portability of the Magic Link, which weighs 1.2 pounds and measures approximately 7 1/2" by 5" by 1", eliminates the need for real estate agents to rely on desktop computers in their offices or to refer to bulky printed property listings. Queries to MLS can be constructed by touching the appropriate icons on Mobile MLS's interface, and either summary listings or full listings can be retrieved. New queries based on different client criteria ranging from location to price, number of rooms, or property type can be initiated on the road, allowing brokers, agents, and buyers to get up-to-the-minute listings within moments of connecting to a telephone line.
The Sony Magic Link personal communicator incorporates General Magic's Magic Cap and Telescript technology. The Magic Cap platform features an easy-to-use interface and integrates fax, electronic mail, paging, and telephone communication. Integrated with the Magic Cap software's core communication capabilities are personal information management features including an address file, an appointment calendar, and a notebook for both handwritten and typed information.
