General Magic Internet Access Software to be Offered to AT&T Personalink Subscribers
SUNNYVALE, Calif. — July 11, 1996 — General Magic today announced that AT&T will offer General Magic's new Presto!Mail Internet multimedia e-mail application to subscribers of AT&T PersonaLink(SM) Services. In addition, subscribers who receive Presto!Mail through AT&T's offer will also get General Magic's Presto!Links Web browser application. Together, Presto!Mail and Presto!Links provide Internet e-mail and the first Web access for handheld communicators incorporating text, graphics, and forms support over existing Internet service providers. These applications will give PersonaLink subscribers Internet and Web access following AT&T's recent decision to discontinue operation of AT&T PersonaLink Services on August 30, 1996.
"General Magic recognizes that users seek a broad range of communications options, focused on open systems such as the Internet," said Steve Schramm, Vice President of General Magic's Communications Products Division. "Our work on the Magic Cap platform — both the Presto!Mail and Presto!Links applications, as well as Magic Cap for Windows — reflects our ongoing efforts to pursue the market for electronic communications by providing powerful, engaging products based on open standards.
