General Magic Ships Mobile Web Browser and Internet Email Solutions; Economical Alternative to Laptop Computers for Mobile Web Access
SUNNYVALE, Calif. — June 25, 1996 — General Magic, Inc. (Nasdaq: GMGC) today announced the commercial availability of its Presto!Links(TM) 1.5 and Presto!Mail(TM) 1.0 software solutions for mobile access to the World Wide Web, Internet e-mail, and corporate intranet connectivity via portable Magic Cap(R) communicators. The two applications provide the first on-the-go integrated Internet access for users of Magic Cap communicators such as the Sony Magic Link PIC-2000 or Envoy 150 Wireless Communicator from Motorola. Presto!Links allows users to browse Web pages and access Web-based corporate information. Presto!Mail lets users send and retrieve multimedia electronic mail via Internet accounts, and access corporate information using open standards protocols, including PPP, POP3, SMTP.

Presto!Links 1.0 is a full-featured Web browser that runs on Magic Cap communicators. It enables a user with a standard peer-to-peer protocol (PPP) based Internet Service Provider accounts to navigate the Web, follow hypertext links, and access graphics and HTML forms. It features off-line and background retrieval of Web pages, and lets users file and retrieve downloaded Web pages.
Presto!Mail 1.5 is an Internet standards-based email access client that provides users of Magic Cap communicators direct access to Internet Service Provider electronic mailboxes. Presto!Mail allows users to send and receive Internet e-mail, manage the contents of their mailbox, and to send multimedia messages to other Magic Cap communicators with Presto!Mail.
The street price for the combined Presto!Mail 1.5 and Presto!Links 1.0 solution is $49.95. It is available through Sony's direct order number 1-800-571-SONY and directly from General Magic's new toll-free order and support line (1 -888-266-5873). Customers receive 30 days of free customer support through General Magic's toll-free support line or through electronic mail. General Magic is offering current registered users of Presto!Mail 1.0 a free upgrade that includes both Presto!Mail 1.5 and Presto!Links 1.0.
Presto!Links 1.0 and Presto!Mail 1.5 are based on technology acquired by General Magic from Active Paper Inc. To download the applications to communicators requires IntelliLink's Magic Xchange cable and software.
The Magic Cap platform from General Magic integrates today's popular modes of communication including fax, public e-mail services, paging, and telephones.
