General Magic to Showcase Mobile Solutions for Magic Cap Communicators; Applications for Web Browsing, Corporate Lan Access, and Vertical Markets
BURLINGAME, Calif. — March 19, 1996 — General Magic (Nasdaq: GMGC) today will demonstrate a variety of applications for Magic Cap communicators at the Mobile Forum conference. Highlights of today's demonstration include applications for Internet access (including access to the World Wide Web), corporate local area network connectivity, and specific vertical markets.
"These applications illustrate the Magic Cap platform's solutions for key markets," said Marc Porat, chairman and chief executive of General Magic. "Magic Cap communicators and these applications provide the functionality users need in a compact and easy-to-use package."
A variety of solutions using Magic Cap communicators, the Sony Magic Link PIC-2000 and the Envoy(R) Wireless Communicator from Motorola, are to be featured. Software to be shown includes Web and Internet email applications from Active Paper giving users of Magic Cap communicators compact, mobile internet and intranet access. Also scheduled for display is corporate connectivity software for high-speed wireless access to corporate LANs using a Magic Cap communicator and a Xircom wireless Ethernet PC card. Two applications for vertical markets are also stated for demonstration. Mobile MLS from Mobile Products provides real estate agents intelligent, portable access to property listings in the Multiple Listings Service. Magic Broker lets users perform stock trades, get execution reports, obtain real-time stock quotations, and receive automatic updates on portfolios from the PC Financial Network.
These applications enable a Magic Cap communicator to be an easier-to-use, less expensive, and more compact alternative to expensive and bulky laptops used for mobile, communications-intensive applications.
