PenRight! Applications Fully Support New GRiD Convertible

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — December 2, 1992 — GRiD Systems Corp. Wednesday announced that PenRight! will support the GRiD Convertible, a combination notebook and pen computer introduced at the COMDEX trade show.

The Convertible will run the more than 400 custom applications developed for the pencentric graphical environment. Today, over 80% of all applications running on pen computers have been developed for PenRight!

Bobbi Burns, director of PenRight! sales and marketing for GRiD, said, "The GRiD Convertible is a terrific system for running general productivity applications such as word processors and spreadsheets. It's also perfectly suited for running the many custom pen applications now being used by many corporations and government agencies.

"A number of customers running PenRight! applications today may have a need for a notebook computer. Now they can migrate their PenRight! applications to the GRiD Convertible and obtain all the advantages that a pen-enabled notebook offers," Burns added.

Betsy Reagan, vice president of marketing for GRiD, said, "We want to insure that the investment customers have made in the development of PenRight! applications is maximized."

Today, pen computer users vary widely from sales representatives to health care workers, to inspectors to police officers, but all have data collection applications on their systems. With the announcement of the GRiD Convertible, Burns explained there are several significant benefits that the dual functionality can provide for users.

A sales representative, for example, could use the Convertible as a pen computer and collect sales order information in the field. Later that day, he or she could use the system in the office to write letters or complete sales reports. "In that typical example," she said, "the user is working with both custom and general productivity applications every day."

Most PenRight! applications today are running on 8086-based pen computers. For certain applications, including those that involve extensive numeric processing or graphical retrieval, the processing can be significantly accelerated on the GRiD Covertible. The Convertible is a 25MHz, Intel386 SL-based computer with a math coprocessor included in the standard configuration.

GRiD designs, manufactures, markets and services laptop, notebook, pen and multimedia computers, and pen-based software development tools. GRiD is located at 7 Village Circle, Westlake, Texas. GRiD products are marketed worldwide by GRiD, Tandy GRiD Europe and by authorized GRiD distributors and resellers.
