ParaGraph Ships Award-Winning Recognition for Windows CE; ‘Best of COMDEX 97’ and ‘Best of Show, COMDEX 97’
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — December 3, 1997 — Silicon Graphics, Inc. (NYSE: SGI) and its pen and Internet technology company, ParaGraph PI Technology, today announced the availability of CalliGrapher(TM) 5.0 for Windows(R) CE. CalliGrapher 5.0 provides accurate handwriting recognition and spell checking for all applications developed for the Windows CE operating system. CalliGrapher users can write information directly into the screen of their handheld personal computers, which is often a more effective input option than typing. Version 5.0 also adds a new Screen Draw Mode, the ability to write in any orientation, as well as deferred recognition.
CalliGrapher 5.0 is available at a suggested retail price of $49.95 and a license may be purchased from ParaGraph's Web site, www.paragraph.com, or by calling 800-810-0055.
CalliGrapher is a "universal" recognizer that understands how people normally write — natural cursive, print, and mixed cursive and print handwriting. Based on fuzzy logic and neural network techniques, it recognizes dictionary and non-dictionary words and arbitrary symbol sequences. CalliGrapher is user-independent, can be used immediately without training, and does not require users to memorize special symbols or change their writing style.
At COMDEX '97, CalliGrapher 5.0 won two awards. Byte Magazine honored Calligrapher with the prestigious "Best of Show – Winner" award and PC Week named the handwriting recognition software as a finalist for the 'Best of COMDEX" award.
