Puma Technology Releases Next Generation Synchronization Support for 3Com’s PalmPilot Organizer and the IBM WorkPad

SAN JOSE, Calif. — February 9, 1998 — IntelliSync(TM) for PalmPilot(TM) 2.0 Delivers New Features with Increased Support for New Personal Information Management Software

Puma Technology(TM), Inc. (NASDAQ:PUMA), the leader in Mobile Data Exchange(TM) software solutions, has introduced IntelliSync for PalmPilot 2.0 for Windows 95 and NT, offering new features and expanded synchronization support for new personal information management (PIM) and corporate groupware software applications. IntelliSync from Puma Technology is the engine driving direct content-aware synchronization between the popular PalmPilot connected organizer and leading PC-based PIM software.

IntelliSync for PalmPilot, which provides synchronization support for both the 3Com PalmPilot and IBM WorkPad, is available for $ 69.95 directly from Puma Technology and from major computer superstores nationwide. Users may keep their IntelliSync software completely up-to-date with the optional Premier Upgrade Subscription Service. New IntelliSync users can purchase an annual subscription to the Premier Upgrade Subscription Service for $ 39.95 at the time of the initial IntelliSync purchase. This brings the user unlimited IntelliSync software upgrades for an entire year.

Current users who decide to subscribe to Puma's Premier Upgrade Subscription Service can receive the same unlimited services for the annual fee of $ 49.95. Corporate site licenses are available through Puma's IntelliSync Gold synchronization solution, which encompasses all IntelliSync supported devices and personal information management (PIM) and scheduling applications. IntelliSync for PalmPilot version 2.0 adds support for Lotus Organizer 97 GS, Novell GroupWise 5.2, ON Technology Meeting Maker 5.0, Oracle InterOffice 4.1, and Symantec ACT! 3.0.7.

It also supports a wide variety of other popular PIM applications, including Microsoft Outlook 97, Microsoft Schedule+, Day-Timer Organizer, GoldMine, Starfish Sidekick, Internet Sidekick, NetManage ECCO and PalmPilot desktop. Puma's new software now includes a powerful new custom filtering feature which allows users to conveniently select and synchronize only the information they want (e.g. only records marked as "business"). Users can even specify multi-condition filters for greater control. This feature is particularly important for large databases, and allows users to optimize the storage in the PalmPilot handheld computer.

In addition, version 2.0 includes enhanced synchronization support for Microsoft Outlook, including support for Outlook Subfolders, Custom Designed Forms and User Defined Fields, as well as significantly improved performance. "Consumers and corporations using the 3Com PalmPilot or IBM WorkPad can now experience new state-of-the-art synchronization with our IntelliSync 2.0 technology," said Bradley A. Rowe, president and CEO of Puma Technology. "These revolutionary organizer platforms are becoming a primary tool for people worldwide, but people truly serious about using these devices as extensions to their business and personal lives, must trust an industry-standard synchronization solution.

Consumers and corporations can rely on this newly enhanced version of IntelliSync as a means of keeping their mission critical personal and corporate data in tact and in sync. Lesser copycat products do not match the device and application support, or the patented design and demonstrated reliability of the industry's defacto standard for synchronization, IntelliSync." IntelliSync for PalmPilot was the first member of Puma's growing IntelliSync product family, which now supports a wide range of mobile devices including AT&T's PocketNet Service phones, the Nokia 9000i Communicator, the family of Sharp personal organizers, the Texas Instruments Avigo, all Windows CE-based handheld PCs, notebook computers and others.

IntelliSync's technology is uniquely designed to eliminate the problems of synchronizing data between a broad range of disparate database applications and computer platforms. It is through this robust synchronization engine that IntelliSync for PalmPilot is able to link directly with popular PIMs and group schedulers to simultaneously update changes between multiple applications on the PalmPilot and a PC without intermediate conversions or formats. In addition, IntelliSync for PalmPilot automatically resolves conflicts which can arise when synchronizing information, such as an address change, in two places containing different "values". When such a conflict arises, the user is notified and can then decide how to handle the conflict.

DSX(TM) Technology – IntelliSync's Powerful Engine Puma's patented DSX technology, the core of all IntelliSync solutions, is protected by four United States patents and is the subject of other patents pending. DSX technology accurately synchronizes information between popular contact and scheduling applications and mobile devices. It ensures that all the information contained in these devices and applications is kept in sync as changes are made on a continual basis within the different device environments. DSX technology can go so far as to resolve the intricate differences between how various features and functions of the handheld devices and applications are implemented and also recognize possible entry mistakes such as conflicting appointments or mismatched phone numbers.
