RAM Mobile Data Announces Support for Microsoft Windows CE Platform

WOODBRIDGE, N.J. — September 17, 1996 — RAM Mobile Data today announced that it is supporting wirelessly-enabled applications for the Microsoft(R) new Windows(R) CE platform, formerly known by the code name "Pegasus." RAM Mobile Data has been a participating member in the preview program, and is committed to making software drivers available to hardware providers to help spur development of applications for the Windows CE platform which will operate on RAM's two-way nationwide wireless data communications service.

William Lenahan, president and CEO of RAM Mobile Data, said, "This is an exciting opportunity for both RAM Mobile Data and for Microsoft Corporation — an opportunity which will provide more choices for mobile professionals and for Windows/based computer users. We are looking forward to participating in the development of drivers that will make it easier to create wirelessly- enabled applications which use the Microsoft Windows CE platform for handheld devices. This opportunity fits well with RAM's mission of delivering a competitive advantage to visionary companies who leverage communications technology to meet their strategic goals."

Since the Windows CE operating system makes use of the Windows interface, it means that many mobile professionals are familiar with the applications and therefore there is not a lengthy learning curve associated with the Microsoft offering. Having wireless capabilities built in the Windows CE platform means that mobile professionals will be able to send and retrieve information virtually any time and from any location.

RAM Mobile Data is an expert in providing proven communications solutions that eliminate the barriers between critical information and mobile users. RAM's solutions deliver a competitive advantage to visionary companies who are leveraging communications technology to meet their strategic goals.

Moreover, RAM's Strategic Network Initiative will combine its Mobitex- based wireless network with links to complementary networks including circuit- switched cellular, satellite, paging and dial-up (PSTN) — delivering the best solution possible to customers. With its Strategic Network, RAM will be the only company which will enable the customer to cover 100 percent of its mobile users in the United States.
