ARDIS Announces Immediate Availability of Wireless Messaging Applications for Windows CE Platform

LAS VEGAS — November 18, 1996 — Comdex Booth #1046– Today at COMDEX, ARDIS, the nation's largest two-way wireless data network, announced immediate availability of electronic mail and two-way messaging applications for the new Microsoft(R) Windows(R) CE operating system, developed to operate over the ARDIS nationwide network. These applications, which are Mail on the Run!(R), IntegraNet and RadioMail, are available directly from ARDIS and bring interactive messaging services to millions of users of Windows.

This series of software offerings supports the new family of Windows CE-based handheld PCs, offered by leading manufacturers such as Casio, Compaq, LG Electronics, NEC and Phillips, and extend the popular Windows computing environment to the palm of a hand — wirelessly. When integrated with the Motorola(R) PM(TM)100D Wireless Modem Card, these handheld PCs become wireless mobile clients, providing seamless wireless communication to Windows-based desktops, as well as Internet and Intranet connectivity.

Applications For Windows CE As part of its one-stop solution, ARDIS is offering the PM100D modem card bundled with any of its software options under a 12 month lease for a low monthly fee. The applications available for Windows CE are:

— RadioMail, which provides a wireless gateway to the Internet and a host of information and business services. The application allows for two-way Internet messaging, paging, faxing and access to information services.

— Mail on the Run!, which enables users to wirelessly send, receive, preview, store, forward and reply to messages on corporate standard e-mail systems. The software includes filtering capabilities that allow e-mail users to collect only those messages that they want to retrieve. Optimized for wireless environments, Mail on the Run! also includes encryption and data compression capabilities that provide security and cost-efficient messaging.

— IntegraNet Mobility Services, by Integra Technology International, which provides wireless services including two-way messaging via a 1-800 number or PC client messaging software, Internet e-mail, interactive chat directly between mobile users, faxing and information services access.

"Solutions that leverage the familiar Windows environment provide wireless customers the most efficient path to making mobile communications work for them," said Walt Purnell, president and chief executive officer, ARDIS. "By offering these Windows CE-based applications, ARDIS addresses the portability, ease-of-use, and Internet access requirements of mobile users. In addition, we deliver extensive nationwide coverage, no roaming or long distance charges, one easy to understand bill and a single source for support — making these applications truly nationwide mobile solutions."

"We are excited that ARDIS has delivered on its commitment to developing applications for the Windows CE platform with the delivery of electronic mail and two-way messaging applications," said Jon Magill, director of marketing, consumer appliances group at Microsoft. "With industry support from companies like ARDIS, the Windows CE platform will allow handheld computing to expand to its full potential."
