ARDIS Announces Support for Philips Windows CE-based Handheld Personal Computer
LAS VEGAS — November 18, 1996 — Comdex booth #1046–ARDIS Bundled Solution Transforms The Velo 1 Into A Wireless Windows Client
ARDIS, the nation's leading wireless data network operator, today announced support for the Velo (TM) 1, the new handheld personal computer based on the Microsoft (R) Windows (R) CE platform from Philips Mobile Computing Group. Teaming with Motorola (R) and Integra Technology International, ARDIS today introduced a cost-effective, bundled solution that turns the Velo 1 into a wireless mobile client, providing seamless wireless communication to Windows-based desktops, as well as Internet and Intranet connectivity.
As part of a complete wireless solution for the Velo 1, ARDIS is bundling the Velo 1, Motorola PM (TM) 100D Wireless Modem Card with Integra's IntegraNet Mobility Services. Providing one-stop wireless shopping and a convenient 12 month lease with a low monthly fee, the ARDIS bundled solution extends wireless capabilities to the popular Windows computing environment using the Velo 1 handheld PC, providing two-way messaging via a 1-800 number or PC client messaging software, Internet e-mail, interactive chatting directly between mobile users, faxing and information services access. The bundled solution will be available by the end of the year direct from ARDIS.
"Incorporating best-in-class design and functionality in a lightweight portable solution, the Velo 1 represents a significant productivity gain for mobile professionals who need to stay in touch with the office from the road," said Walt Purnell, president and chief executive officer, ARDIS. "Combined with ARDIS' complete bundled solution, extensive nationwide coverage, no roaming or long distance charges, one easy to understand bill and a single source for support, the Velo 1 represents a new breed of communications tool for today's road warriors."
By providing highly-integrated communications capabilities and superior expandability, the Velo 1 enables mobile professionals to carry the essence of their desktop computer while away from the office. A built-in 19.2 Kbps land-line modem allows users to leave the 100D wireless modem card plugged-in to one of the Velo's two PC Card slots throughout the day, providing convenient access to the powerful wireless IntegraNet Mobility Services. Requiring only two inexpensive and readily available AA batteries, the Velo 1 meets the demanding needs of traveling executives. And using the Velo Dock, users can easily transfer information between the Velo 1 and the user's Windows 95-based PC, providing the desktop synchronization capabilities mobile professionals demand.
