Data Critical to Develop Multiple Wireless Solutions for Microsoft Windows CE Platform
LAS VEGAS — November 18, 1996 — Applications allow for secure, reliable data transmission to new desktop companion handheld PCs
Data Critical Corp., a developer of wireless applications for mobile professionals, has announced its plans to develop a variety of wireless solutions, including those for the healthcare and law enforcement industries, for Microsoft Corp.'s new category of Windows(R) operating system-based desktop companion handheld PCs, based upon the Microsoft(R) Windows CE platform.
"Data Critical's sole mission is to deliver high value, time sensitive information to people when and where they want it; therefore, it was natural for us to support the Microsoft Windows CE platform," said Jeff Brown, president and CEO of Data Critical. "We believe this new platform will play a pivotal role in streamlining the way people access critical information while away from the office."
"Microsoft is pleased by Data Critical's continued commitment to the Windows CE platform," said Jon Magill, director of marketing, consumer appliances group at Microsoft. "Their plans to develop wireless solutions based on Windows CE for consumers in industries such as healthcare and law enforcement will help expand the new category for handheld PCs."
Data Critical's applications will allow various forms of data, including faxes, spreadsheets, images, text or any binary file, to be sent wirelessly to a handheld PC.
Examples of how this technology can be applied include transmitting EKG waveforms, critical patient and fetal monitoring information and other medical data to remote physicians; transmitting mug shots and APB information to law enforcement officials; sending security-camera images from industrial facilities to security offices and dispatching of delivery and other fleet vehicles.
Windows CE has been designed to provide the millions of mobile professionals using Windows-based personal computers an affordable handheld PC companion for the time they are away from the office.
Windows CE provides a familiar, easy-to-learn user interface modeled after Windows 95, works with the Windows-based personal information management and productivity applications customers know and use every day, and provides seamless synchronization with Windows-based desktops. Moreover, Windows CE provides a development environment that helps ensure a strong aftermarket will develop for the handheld companion applications these customers will demand.
Headquartered in Redmond, Wash., Data Critical designs, manufactures and markets cost-effective wireless applications for mobile professionals. The company offers a variety of wireless communication applications, with a focus on saving lives, time and costs.
Data Critical's patented Data-Through-Paging(TM) (DTP) technology ensures that various forms of data are transmitted securely and accurately. DTP technology features Data Encryption Standard (DES) for security, as well as exceptional data compression for fast message and file transfers.
