VeriTest Opens Software Testing For New Windows CE Logo Program

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — November 18, 1996 — VeriTest, Inc., the only authorized test laboratory for the new Microsoft Windows CE Software Logo Program, today formally opened application software validation testing for the Windows CE platform for handheld PCs. VeriTest made the announcement at Fall COMDEX '96, as Microsoft Corp. released guidelines for the Logo Program.

The logo criteria and test procedures for Windows CE will enable software publishers and independent software vendors (ISVs) to comply with functionality and compatibility standards for Windows CE-based applications. The Windows CE Software Logo Program provides end-users with consistent and trustworthy information about application compatibility.

The testing guidelines address such areas as application functionality and stability, 32-bit compatibility, installation routines, registry requirements, user interface/shell support specifications, and support for long file names. Guidelines apply equally to applications developed expressly for Windows CE and so-called "companion" applications, which are designed for desktop systems but interact with Windows CE-based software.

"With the release of these guidelines, we're delighted to formally open testing to the development community for Windows CE," said Steve Nemzer, president, VeriTest. "Developers can now build applications for Windows CE with a clear understanding of what the Logo Program requires, while end-users can gain a real sense of what the logo for Windows CE means."

"Microsoft applauds VeriTest's efforts in validating software applications for the Windows CE platform," said Jon Magill, director of marketing, consumer appliances group at Microsoft. "The testing conducted by VeriTest for the Windows CE Software Logo Program provides ISVs with compliance procedures for Windows CE and provides customers with important information about application compatibility."
