Hundreds of New Computer and Communications Products Showcased at COMDEX/PacRim ’97

NEEDHAM, Mass. — January 16, 1997 — Hundreds of new products will be demonstrated by over 250 leading computer and communications companies at COMDEX/PacRim '97, the largest technology trade show in Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest. Taking place January 21-23, 1997, at the Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre, in Vancouver, British Columbia, COMDEX/PacRim '97 is expected to attract more than 30,000 business professionals.

Products at the show will highlight applications and tools for the Internet and World Wide Web, communications, network computing, multimedia, servers, computer telephony, desktop systems, mobile and wireless computing, office systems and OEM sources.

Among the exhibitors showcasing new products are: AEI Enterprises, Ltd., BC TEL Mobility, Best Power Technology of Canada Ltd., Canbell Group Inc., Borland Canada Software, Inc., Dominion Internet, L.C.F. Advanced Technology Ltd., Madge Networks, MTS Advanced, Platinum Upgrades Inc., PSINet Limited, Rainbow Technologies, Tektronix Canada, Inc. and Wandel & Golterman, Inc.

The following is a small sample of what attendees will see:

AOL Canada will exhibit new accessories for members such as an HTML-based E-mail system, offering rich text with background colors, font size and formatting capabilities, as well as "My AOL," an application for customizing AOL to receive personal news, stock updates, and other information.

AGFA will present its new digital camera, the ePhoto 307, to the Canadian marketplace at COMDEX/PacRim '97. The ePhoto offers high-quality, 24-bit images and is Macintosh, Windows 95 and Windows NT compatible. AGFA will also spotlight its latest line of scanners, including SnapScan, StudioStar, StudioScan and Arcus II.

DOMUS Software, an Ottawa-based software consulting and development corporation, will release their newest integrated software, CCM Plus Version 1.0. It enables users to track and manage correspondence and other items, run standard and full-text searches, notify users of work to be done, attach scanned images, create and locate electronic files, run standard reports and create additional ad-hoc reports.

At the show, Novell Canada Ltd. will release its new networking platform for small businesses, code-named Kayak, which has been in beta since early November.

Microsoft Canada Inc. will showcase its new desktop suite, Office 97, which includes built-in hyperlinking, searching and navigation functionality, and Windows CE, an open, scalable Windows operating system platform for a broad range of communications, entertainment and mobile computing devices.

The Computer and Personal Information Division of Sony of Canada Ltd. will introduce the DSC-F1, a digital still camera, ideal for corporate presentations, visual documentation, in-house publishing, image cataloguing and Web site authoring.

Cardiff Software, Inc., a supplier of automated data collection products, will demonstrate its new Teleform Internet forms processing products that create, distribute, and read information from faxed, scanned, and electronic forms.

Fujitsu Canada, Inc. will display its new 640MB 3.5-inch rewritable MO drive that holds 450 times the data of a regular 3.5-inch floppy.

Vancouver-based Impaq Technology, a distributor of notebooks and notebook and PC peripherals, will present Eurocom's new multi-media Pentium/200 notebooks with 8X CD-ROM, 12-inch active color display, RAM expansion to 128MG, and a removable floppy that can be exchanged for a second battery.

Xerox Canada's Desktop Products Group will demonstrate its newest digital document products and services, emphasizing printers with "copier-like" features and Internet printing capabilities for networked offices.

In addition to the exhibits, attendees can register for the COMDEX/PacRim Conference Program. It is the most comprehensive to date and addresses the key issues facing Canada's IT professionals today.
