River Run Software Group Announces Mail on the Run! for Microsoft Windows CE for the New HP 300LX and 320LX Palmtop PCs

GREENWICH, Conn. — February 10, 1997 — River Run Software Group(R) Inc. announced today that its popular Mail on the Run!(R) product for the Windows(R) CE platform will be available for HP's new HP 300LX and 320LX palmtop PCs. Mail on the Run! was developed to integrate seemlessly into the new Microsoft(R) Windows CE operating system. Its design takes full advantage of HP's new wide 640X240 screen, so that remote e-mail messages can be viewed without side-to-side scrolling. The Mail on the Run! software for Windows CE provides users of the HP 300LX/320LX palmtop PCs with direct and remote access to the world's most popular LAN-based e-mail systems, including Microsoft Mail, Lotus(R) cc:Mail(TM), Microsoft Exchange Server and Lotus Notes Mail, and to the Internet via the mail system's Internet gateway.

With Mail on the Run! for Windows CE and an HP 300LX/320LX palmtop PC, users can access their e-mail when they are at their desks, when they are waiting at an airport, in the middle of a meeting… at any time from anywhere. Communications options provide complete flexibility of direct connection or remote access over a telephone, circuit switched cellular or wireless packet data network, such as ARDIS(SM). The Mail on the Run! product consists of two components: client software that is installed on the HP 300LX/320LX palmtop PC, and agent software that is installed on a Windows 95-based desktop or Windows NT(R) 4.0 system with Remote Access Service (RAS).

The system upon which the agent is installed is connected to the LAN where the e-mail system post office resides. Mail on the Run! software takes full advantage of the security provided by RAS authentication. The Mail on the Run! client uses the Windows CE Inbox as the mail interface and allows the user to select the mail service and send, receive, store, forward and reply to LAN-based e-mail messages all from within the Inbox function. The user may also filter message headers to download only those messages that he or she wants to receive while on the road. "We are excited to have a relationship with HP and to provide a product that takes full advantage of the powerful combination of the HP 300LX/320LX palmtop PC and the Windows CE operating system," said Dr. Trilok Manocha, president and CEO of River Run Software Group.

He added, "HP has a reputation for providing excellent and successful palmtop products. An HP 300LX/320LX and the full function, remote e-mail capability of Mail on the Run! will provide mobile users with an exceptional tool for staying connected and in control of their work whenever they are away from their desks." "Access to corporate e-mail is a must for today's busy professionals. The bigger, full-width displays on HP's new HP 300LX and 320LX palmtop PCs will greatly enhance e-mail viewing," said Kheng Joo Khaw, general manager of HP's Asia Pacific PC Division. "River Run provides a flexible solution that addresses the need for secure access to corporate e-mail systems." Mail on the Run! for Windows CE is priced at $ 89.00 for single users and is available in multi-user license packs as well as site licenses. HP will ship a product CD with every HP 300LX/320LX palmtop PC.

A trial version of Mail on the Run! software will be included on this CD. River Run Software Group will offer consultation and project design as a service and provide special project-based pricing.
