Nestle Worldwide Executives Complete U.S. Study Tour for Technology Briefing with Key Strategic Partners… Microsoft, Thinque Systems
NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — April 15, 1997 — Managing technology successfully through the 21st century is a key objective for twenty-three of the most influential technology decision-makers across the worldwide Nestle organization, the world's largest food manufacturer. Nestle's U.S. Study Tour included private conferences on the future of PC technology with Microsoft, and a particular focus on mobile computing technology with Nestle's sales force automation software supplier, Thinque Systems Corporation.
Nestle's investment in Thinque Systems' enterprise-wide solution for sales force automation is evidence of Nestle's commitment to leverage technology for competitive advantage. Nestle's approach with automation is to work with best of breed software providers who offer expertise with advanced technology. Thinque Systems provides Sales Portfolio(TM), a Windows for Pen-based software solution that is comprised of business application modules that are configurable and customizable by the user. Sales Portfolio(TM) provides Nestle a unique solution to accommodate the multiple, regional business models that operate across their diverse organization around the world.
During the prestigious Nestle U.S. Study Tour, Thinque announced and demonstrated strategic additions to their expansive product line that include support of Active X, Internet-enabled communications and Windows CE in upcoming releases.
Highlights of the conference included a 'technology in action' presentation from Darlene Kelly, CIO at Physician Sales and Service (PSS). Ms. Kelly credited sales force automation as a key component in PSS' drive to break the $1 billion sales barrier, noting that the Thinque Systems' solution installed in 1994 has allowed them to significantly increase PSS' net profit margin, delivering hard ROI benefits to the bottom line. The Nestle group also received a demonstration of Sales Portfolio(TM), Thinque's suite of SFA and mobile communications software products, many of which are part of the Nestle solution. Technology stations at the conference provided hands-on experience with Fujitsu Stylistic 1000 pen computers running Sales Portfolio, a Windows NT RAS server running ThinqComm(TM) mobile communications middleware and a Philips Velo hand-held Personal Computer running Thinque's order entry application under the Windows CE operating system.
Diversity in geography, language and product notwithstanding, the Nestle organization engages in a recurring sales process to move some of the world's best-known brands through the selling chain. Thinque Systems was awarded the SFA business based on Thinque's extensive experience in automation of the recurring sales process for leading consumer products and pharmaceutical corporations. Thinque's advanced software design combines the look and feel of a customized solution with the benefits of a 'shrink-wrap' product. In fact Nestle determined that, out of the fifty SFA vendors they evaluated, only Thinque Systems offered the product configurability and flexibility required to meet the incredibly diverse user requirements the Nestle proposition entails. Rapid deployment and flexibility are additional important characteristics of Thinque Systems' software.
