Puma Technology Brings IntelliSync Synchronization Software to New Sharp Mobile Organizer

SAN JOSE, Calif. — April 28, 1997 — Staying abreast of the rapidly expanding PC companion market with innovative Mobile Data Exchange software solutions, Puma Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:PUMA) announces IntelliSync for the Sharp Mobile Organizer. This latest member of Puma's industry-leading IntelliSync product line will provide a seamless method to automatically synchronize data between the new Sharp Electronic SE 500 Mobile Organizer and a multitude of PC-based Personal Information Management (PIM), contact management and scheduling applications. Applications supported include Microsoft Schedule+ and Outlook '97, ACT!, Lotus Organizer and Organizer '97, GoldMine, NetManage ECCO, Day-Timer Organizer, Sidekick for Windows and more.

Expected to reach market by mid-Summer 1997, IntelliSync for the Sharp Mobile Organizer will be available both as a standalone off-the-shelf retail solution provided by Puma and as a bundled solution with the Sharp SE 500 offering limited PIM support. The standalone version of IntelliSync for the Sharp Mobile Organizer will provide more extensive PIM support and will be available through numerous retail outlets nationwide. The product will carry a suggested retail price of $ 69.95.

With a large range of diverse handheld devices and PIMs rapidly reaching market, Puma is the only company equipped to address the challenge of device and PC synchronization with its Mobile Data Exchange software. Synchronization is an extremely complex challenge due to the number of operating systems, hardware and communications architectures, and application-specific data formats and structures involves. And with mobile professionals often adopting more than one handheld device requiring synchronization with potentially two or more PIMs on a PC, synchronization needs to be an accurate, all-in-one solution. Puma's IntelliSync for the Sharp Mobile Organizer is another example of Pumas synchronization technology linking a variety of mobile devices to PC-based applications while seamlessly overcoming the complex associated infrastructures.

The pocket-sized Sharp SE 500 brings a variety of options to mobile professionals seeking a handheld organizer including a built-in modem to deliver e-mail connectivity, personal productivity functions such as customizable databases, scheduling and "to do" options, memos, and powerful "zero touch" synchronization to PCs via Pumas IntelliSync software. With an included docking station, modem, IrDA port for wireless PC communications, multiple e-mail options, and pen and on-screen keyboard options, the SE 500 is a complete out-of-the-box handheld solution.

"The new Sharp SE 500 mobile organizer is a prime example of advanced PC companion technology," said Brad Rowe, president and CEO of Puma Technology. "Today's mobile professionals not only rely on devices such as the Sharp SE 500 to take their work on the road, they rely increasingly on Puma to integrate these devices with the corporate world of desktop computers and applications. Puma is committed to expanding its IntelliSync family to address new handheld devices as they reach market. It is our goal to extend the functionality of these devices to become an integral part of a user's office environment."

IntelliSync for the Sharp Mobile Organizer closely follows Puma's recently introduced IntelliSync for Windows CE offering. IntelliSync for Sharp will enhance the use of the Sharp SE 500 due to IntelliSync's unique ability to seamlessly synchronize data, such as contact or scheduling-oriented data in a content-aware fashion at the record and field level with applications on a desktop or notebook PC. Puma's IntelliSync family also includes IntelliSync for PalmPilot, HP 200LX and Windows CE. The IntelliSync family has already made a positive impact in the PC Companion marketplace by making life easier for users to move from yesterday's unconnected, unsynchronized world of multiple personal computing devices.

IntelliSync for the Sharp Mobile Organizer will be available either directly from Puma or via Pumas Web site at www.pumatech.com since Puma has taken its customer service commitment to a new level by offering commerce on the Web.
