Web Access Now Available on WyndMail Wireless Communication Service
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — May 6, 1997 — Users of WyndMail wireless communications service plans can now instantly and automatically retrieve the contents of any Web page.
WebValet is the first member in the new WyndValet family of services from Wynd Communications. Available immediately, WebValet is free with all WyndMail service plans, and users pay only for data exchanged. Future WyndValet products will focus on giving wireless users instant access to the information they need and want, including stock quotes, sports, travel and headline news. WyndMail service starts at just $ 29.95 per month.
"WebValet enables WyndMail users to retrieve valuable information from any Web page. Web pages are converted into text, so they download quickly. Being text, they are also easy to read, even on small portable computers, such as handheld CE units, HP Palmtops, and Apple MessagePads," said Dan Luis, vice president of business development at Wynd Communications. "WebValet provides a simple, time-sensitive alternative to Web browsing that is optimized for mobile computing platforms."
Web Pages are Only 60 Seconds Away
WebValet is easy to use. It takes only two steps to retrieve the text from any Web page. Simply type "www" in the "to" field of an e-mail message and input the URL of the desired page in the "subject" field. The text-based content from that page will be sent to the user's WyndMail address in about 60 seconds.
Its simple interface makes WebValet convenient to use anywhere. "I was at a Timberwolves basketball game recently with a customer," says Fred Hundt, vice president and director of advertising for the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "I checked the news headlines using WebValet and found that two of my customer's major competitors had just merged. I was able to retrieve the full text of the article and discuss an advertising strategy with my customer, all from the sidelines."
WebValet can capture text from any Web page. Each page is converted to text, minimizing wireless charges and making valuable information accessible at the touch of a button.
Wireless 24 Hours a Day, Only Pay for Messages Sent/Received
WyndMail wireless communication service plans provide 24-hour-a-day wireless connection at no charge. Users pay only for messages sent and received based on their individual service plan. Wynd Communications offers service plans starting at $ 29.95 for a measured service plan. Wynd is the only company that offers an unlimited usage plan ($ 149.95 per month), allowing users to communicate as much as they want for a flat monthly fee.
Because WyndMail works with a wireless modem, users can send and receive messages without the long distance charges, access fees, or hefty surcharges imposed on calls made from hotel rooms. While most WyndMail messages cost 30 cents or less (based on the $ 29.95 plan), short messages cost just a dime, making it an affordable alternative to wired communications.
WyndMail provides filtering and forwarding of messages, giving users the ability to personalize e-mail functions to suit their own work styles, such as the choice of which messages are received wirelessly. It operates using the RAM Mobile Data Network, which currently provides coverage in 92 percent of the metropolitan United States and is still expanding.
