Modern Age Books Announces Availability of Toolkit for Creation of Electronic Books

NORWOOD, Mass. — May 13, 1997 — Modern Age Books, Inc., a leader in electronic book publishing, today announced the availability of the Modern Age Books Toolkit-CE Edition (patent pending), making it possible for OEMs, ISVs, VARs, and book publishers to create their electronic documentation and books in house.

The Toolkit will include Windows CE export filters for customers who want to ship electronic documentation on CE devices.

Several trade computer book publishers will feature a limited version of the Toolkit in upcoming book/CD-ROM bundles of developer titles, among them the "Windows CE Developer's Handbook" from Sybex, due in October.

With over 35 million electronic books currently "in print", the Modern Age Book's electronic format has become the preferred format for building, delivering, and viewing book-length documents. Its use of a simple-to-understand book metaphor and intuitive, user-friendly search tools has established customer loyalty versus more difficult-to-use formats. All its electronic books support the use of "jumps" from within the document to sites on the Internet, creating a truly dynamic book that has the ability to remain current by accessing the latest information on a topic.

Ken Ashley, Vice President, Sales, of Modern Age Books said: "We'll continue to meet the demands of customers who have come to rely on Modern Age's electronic book conversion services. However, the Toolkit, which was created in response to our customers needs, now puts the control over schedules and products back into their hands."

The CE Edition of the Toolkit can be downloaded for evaluation from the Modern Age site (http://www.mabooks.com/company/ceproducts.htm).

In addition, Modern Age Books is featuring a free download of a CE-formatted book. "Inc." magazine's "How to Really Create a Successful Business Plan" is currently available on the Modern Age website (http://www.mabooks.com/cepromo.htm/). End users can download the book for free and also register to be part of a drawing for a free Motorola Montana, Motorola's 33.6 PC card modem with cellular connectivity that supports Windows CE — a $ 200 value.
