Hitachi Handheld PC Customers Can Now Receive Wireless Messages and Data Anytime, Anywhere

NEWARK, Calif. — June 2, 1997 — Hitachi's Windows CE-based Handheld PC can now function as a wireless receiver.

Socket Communications and GTE announced today that they will be offering an inexpensive wireless information solution for the recently released Hitachi Handheld PC, an ultra portable computer that uses the Microsoft(R ed society."

The GTE PageCard Wireless Information and Messaging System combines Socket's PageCard(R) wireless data receiver and PageSoft(R) software with GTE's extensive wireless network and services to provide Hitachi Handheld PC users with a wireless receiver. For less than $ 30 per month, a Hitachi Handheld PC customer can have a PC Card data receiver and messaging system that also functions as an alphanumeric pager for their Handheld PC. The local service includes 400 messages — approximately 30 pages of typewritten data — each month.

"Hitachi's Handheld PC has been developed as an information and communications tool," said Lee Woodring, Director of Marketing for Hitachi Home Electronics, Inc. "Adding the wireless solution services of Socket Communications and GTE further extends the capability and usefulness of the device. Strategic relationships like these continue to improve handheld mobile communications."

Many types of time-critical data and messages, such as e-mail, can be received directly into the Hitachi Handheld PC via the PageCard. These include stock quotes, sales leads, new real estate listings and conventional alphanumeric pages that have been forwarded directly from a desktop PC.
