Sierra Wireless Wins Two Notable High Tech Industry Awards
VANCOUVER, British Columbia — June 10, 1997 — Impressive growth and innovative technology earn company recognition from TIA and Mobile Insights
Reaping the benefits of another year of business growth and technological innovation, today Sierra Wireless Inc. announced the winning of two notable industry awards.
Honors include the "New Venture of the Year" Award presented by the Technology Industries Association (TIA) and the Mobile Insights "Best PC Card" Award sponsored by the Mountain View, Calif.-based, Mobile Insights, a noted mobile computing and data communications consulting firm.
TIA is comprised of over 200 technology companies that produce and market a broad range of products, including computer software, electronic equipment, telecommunications products, environmental technology, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, subsea and aerospace industries, and system integration. On June 3, 1997, Sierra Wireless was selected for the "New Venture of the Year" Award by a committee of TIA technology company executives.
"Sierra Wireless has demonstrated impressive growth through a combination of technical excellence and strategic marketing initiatives," said TIA Chair David Bensted. "The company was a standout in the new venture of the year category."
Over 20 editors and analysts recognized Sierra Wireless with the Mobile Insights "Best PC Card" Award for AirCard, in a broad category addressing all new PC card products. The Mobile Insights Awards are presented annually to products that have helped change the landscape of mobile computing and wireless data communications.
"As the first Type II PC Card package to offer packet data, circuit data and cellular voice functionality, AirCard clearly raises the technology bar for wireless data devices," said Dr. Gerry Purdy, president of Mobile Insights, and noted wireless data analyst. "The form factor and compatibility with desktop applications make mobile computing now simpler and easier."
Released earlier this year following a joint development with Compaq Computer Corp., AirCard is a PC Card modem and cellular radio solution which allows notebook computer users to link directly to the Internet and World Wide Web. The FCC-approved AirCard solution includes a full function wireline and cellular modem.
"Winning the Mobility Award and TIA's New Venture of the Year Award is a thrill and accomplishment for us," noted David Sutcliffe, president and CEO of Sierra Wireless. "The awards are a credit to the efforts of our employees and our partners."
Also notable is Sierra Wireless' recent acquisition of Cincinnati Microwave's CDPD modem product line and the release of the ruggedized MP-200 modem with GPS functionality.
