Wright Strategies Introduces FormLogic 3.0

SAN DIEGO — June 16, 1997 — New application development platform gives users freedom to choose Windows CE and Newton OS devices to support handheld applications

Wright Strategies, a leading provider of software and services that extend business processes with handheld computers, Monday unveiled FormLogic 3.0, a new application development platform that supports the unique business requirements of task-based mobile users.

With FormLogic 3.0, organizations can automate paper-based business processes and implement real-world applications on low-cost, off-the-shelf Windows CE handheld computers and Newton OS handhelds.

By allowing mobile users to easily exchange field-collected data with corporate information systems for processing, analysis and reporting, FormLogic 3.0 improves data integrity, decreases turnaround time and increases worker productivity. As a result, companies in a variety of industries including retail merchandising, field inspection and audits, route delivery, market research and patient data collection benefit from reduced operational costs and improved customer service.

According to Jay Wright, founder and chief executive officer of Wright Strategies, FormLogic 3.0 addresses the unique challenges of building applications for the burgeoning handheld market. "In addition to their limited computing power and display resources, handheld computers don't function as fixed nodes on a corporate network — so developing and managing applications for these devices can be very complex.

"FormLogic provides an application model and management tools that easily accommodate these challenges," Wright said. "And now with support for both Newton OS and Windows CE devices, FormLogic provides increasing flexibility to meet specific business needs."

According to John Traynor, national retail sales and marketing manager for Microsoft Canada, handhelds are a viable solution for automating field-based processes. "We tried laptops as a way to automate our in-store auditing process at retail sales operations throughout Canada," said Traynor.

"But they were bulky and the battery life was insufficient. We wanted to develop an application for a Windows CE handheld device and FormLogic offered the ideal development model to meet our requirements. FormLogic gave us the flexibility to build a robust application that eliminated the cost and time of re-keying data, decreased errors in our field-collected information, and reduced the turnaround of our call reports."

FormLogic 3.0 lets corporate developers, value-added resellers, systems integrators and independent software vendors develop handheld applications for the latest Windows CE and Newton OS handheld devices. It is available immediately from Wright Strategies or through authorized VARs and systems integrators. Pricing is based on the number of users and concurrent connections required. A free 30-day trial version of FormLogic 3.0 can be downloaded from the Wright Strategies World Wide Web site: www.wrightstrat.com .

About FormLogic

Formlogic consists of the following components:

FormLogic Application Server

The FormLogic Application Server (FLServer) provides the seamless integration of handheld devices with enterprise information systems, including corporate databases, mail servers, the Internet, corporate intranets and host-based systems. Mobile users have the flexibility to connect with corporate systems via dial-up communications lines, local-area networks, TCP/IP networks, as well as emerging wireless Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) networks.

FLServer also facilitates application deployment and management with user authentication, event logging, intelligent software distribution and time synchronization.

FormLogic Client

The FormLogic Client (FLEngine) provides mobile users with one-step automated connections to enterprise systems though a variety of communications methods, including the Internet and intranets.

FormLogic Builder

The FormLogic Builder (FLBuilder) is a rapid application development tool that allows Visual Basic programmers to easily build applications in a familiar code-behind-forms environment. It also includes the ability to easily capture "digital ink" and provides an easy-to-use interface using imagemaps for the Newton MessagePad.

FormLogic System Administration Module

The FormLogic System Administration Module (FLAdmin) provides MIS organizations with the first comprehensive, scaleable solution for managing handheld users and applications. The easy-to-use FLAdmin console provides a familiar user and group management model that allows system administrators to control access to FLServer, assign software for automatic distribution, configure FLServer transports and monitor server activity. In addition, the FLAdmin SDK allows MIS organizations to incorporate FormLogic management capabilities into existing management systems.
