NEC Bundles Communication Intelligence Corporation’s Software for Windows CE Handheld Computer Products
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. — June 17, 1997 — Communication Intelligence Corporation (Nasdaq: CICI)(CIC) announced today that it has entered into an agreement with NEC Corporation whereby NEC is bundling CIC's QuickNotes(TM) application on NEC's Mobile Pro Windows(R) CE handheld personal computers. CIC will receive a royalty for each unit shipped by NEC. As part of the agreement NEC will also promote CIC's Jot(TM) handwriting recognition software to its customers by including Jot sales and marketing literature in Mobile Pro packages.
The NEC Mobile Pro H/PC offers a variety of business applications, personal productivity applications and PIM software. NEC has identified software programs which enhance the Mobile Pro 450's feature set and increase productivity by adding capabilities.
"As one of the first manufacturers to ship a Windows CE handheld computer, we have had much interaction with customers. Based on feedback from our clients, we have determined that CIC's QuickNotes is a critical application which greatly increases the utility of the Windows CE handheld platform," said Jim Schwabe, senior vice president of NEC Computer Systems Division.
"The Windows CE handheld computer platform represents an exciting opportunity for CIC to reach new customers. We are pleased that NEC has chosen to make CIC's software a standard component of its Mobile Pro offerings," said Jeff Dan, Vice President, Marketing and Sales at CIC. "Solutions such as these can help mobile professionals to increase their productivity and efficiency while on the go."
QuickNotes is an application which allows people to capture handwritten notes and drawings on their Windows CE handheld computers. QuickNotes offers users a simple paper-like metaphor for creating and navigating through notes. Since the notes are stored in chronological order and time stamped, it is easy to sort notes and to find information. QuickNotes uses CIC's proprietary electronic link compression technology to minimize the amount of memory which is required by QuickNotes pages.
