PNY’s Flash Memory VersaCard Compatible with Latest Digital Cameras and PDAs

PARSIPPANY, N.J. — July 15, 1997 — PNY Technologies, Inc., a global leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of memory upgrades for personal computers, printers, portable computers, workstations and digital cameras recently announced several new applications for its Flash Memory VersaCard(TM).

"During the past few weeks, several manufacturers have released new products that utilize VersaCard's CompactFlash(TM) format," says PNY's senior associate engineer, Jeff Knapp. "We are seeing a strong mix of upgradable digital cameras and PDAs (personal digital assistants)."

Among the newly released digital cameras that can utilize VersaCard are Kodak's latest additions to its popular Digital Science(TM) series, the DC25, DC50 and DC120. VersaCard is also compatible with Canon's new PowerShot 600 digital camera.

Among the latest PDAs supported by VersaCard are Casio's Cassiopeia A-10, A-11 and A-11 Plus, as well as Compaq's entre into the handheld market, the PC Companion C-120, C-120+ and C-140.

Thanks to a passive adapter, PNY's VersaCard is compatible with virtually any digital camera, notebook computer, or PC equipped with a standard type II or type III PCMCIA slot.

"VersaCard delivers many technological benefits," says Joe Klein, PNY's vice president of engineering. "First and foremost, it utilizes non-volatile Flash Memory which can retain data after power is interrupted or shut off. Its solid state construction makes it the most rugged and reliable memory device available. VersaCard can also be reused thousands of times."

PNY's entire VersaCard product line was recently tested and approved by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) for use with the Windows CE operating system used in personal digital assistants and pen computers which includes the Casio and Compaq models mentioned above and also the NEC MobilePro 400.

In order to obtain Windows CE approval, VersaCard had to pass WHQL's Flash Memory detection test, format compatibility test, file copy test and a FAT (File Allocation Table) file system stress test.

VersaCard is available in 4, 8 and 15 MB densities. A 30 MB upgrade will begin shipping in about 30 days. PNY part numbers and manufacturer's suggested list prices for currently available product are as follows: P-CF004-PA-BX (4MB) @ $129.00, P-CF008-PA-BX (8MB) @ $219.00 and P-CFO15-PA-BX (15MB) @ $329.00.
