Mobile Planet Announces Grand Opening of “CE Central”; One-Stop on-Line Shopping for Windows CE-Based Products
CANOGA PARK, Calif. — July 22, 1997 — Mobile Planet Tuesday announced the grand opening of Mobile Planet's CE Central: a one-stop on-line shop for Windows CE-based Handheld PC products.
The new Web site features secure on-line shopping, and offers everything from Windows CE-based Handheld PCs, their accessories and upgrades to a complete selection of software applications.
The site also displays Mobile Planet's 800 number so customers can call with questions about Windows CE products or order them from a Mobile Planet sales consultant.
Dina Gathe, Mobile Planet's Marcomm director, noted that although it is not always possible to support the needs of the customer without interacting with them directly, "for those customers who want preliminary information fast, or are in a hurry and know what they want to purchase, a secure on-line shopping venue offers a valuable convenience."
Debbie Tudor, Microsoft product manager for Windows CE, pointed out the breadth of product Mobile Planet's CE Central offers: "Their Web site offers a wide selection of Windows CE-approved products. They also appear to present the products in a very informative way with plenty of product images."
Mobile Planet President Casey Powers stated that CE Central's focus is to represent and support the name brands that have made Windows CE a leading platform for handheld computing. Powers also contended that "the future of effective platform development lies in collaborating with partners to make products available to the people who want to buy them."
