Casio Corporation and CogniMed, LLC Announces Handheld Computer Partership; Deal to Provide Platform for Windows CE Healthcare Applications
LAS VEGAS — September 18, 1997 — CogniMed(SM), LLC, provider of patient management software solutions, today announced a development partnership with the Vertical Markets Division of Casio Manufacturing Corporation. Casio will supply market-leading hardware development platforms for development, testing and implementation of Microsoft Windows CE-based healthcare applications. Initial applications will take advantage of the small size, lightweight and ease-of-use features of the platform relative to existing laptop computers.
Point Of Care (POC) and Referral Tracking applications, for use by field clinicians and referral staff are anticipated, with these applications containing automatic upload and download to a central server system. Initial versions of these applications are available for viewing at Booth 1104 of the Microsoft Healthcare User Group (MS-HUG) show here in Las Vegas this week. Casio's Director of Vertical Marketing, Barry Raymond says, "With the need to control the rising costs of regulatory compliance the climate is right for an effective handheld solution."
The CogniMed solutions, based upon the Microsoft Windows CE operating environment, will offer many features not available on existing laptop computer applications. The unit fits into a pocket or purse, and is instantly available after it is turned on. The small size does not act as a barrier between patient and clinician.
