Communication Intelligence Corp. (CIC) Launches PenLABS

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. — January 20, 1992 — Communication Intelligence Corp. (NASDAQ:CICI) Monday announced the formation of PenLABS dedicated to communicating the benefits of pen computing to end-users and ISVs; teaching software developers how to adapt existing and planned DOS programs for use on new pen input notepads and handheld computers; and performing pen compatibility testing for existing DOS programs.

Monthly PenLABS seminars are conducted at CIC's facilities in Redwood Shores (Silicon Valley).

Norman Austin, vice president, Special Projects has been named the general manager of PenLABS.

''Worldwide sales of pen-based computer systems are expected to exceed 2 million units by 1994,'' said James Dao, president and chief executive officer of CIC. ''More than 30 computer OEMs will offer pen-based notepad and handheld computers in the exploding mobile marketplace by the end of 1992.''

''Pen-based computing will improve productivity for computer users and will expand computer applications on all platforms (mainframe, retail and banking terminals, desktop and portable PCs). The mission of PenLABS is to communicate the benefits of pen computing to end-users and software developers.

''CIC's Handwriter Recognition System coupled with the PenDOS Operating Environment will immediately provide 50 million DOS users worldwide the opportunity to use pen computing with over 20,000 existing DOS applications at very little cost,'' Dao added.

CIC's advanced multilingual recognition products, including Handwriter On-Line Dynamic Signature Verification System and the PenDOS operating environment permits OEMs and software developers to deliver high performance, user-friendly pen-based systems today without waiting for the availability of new operating systems. Since CIC's products utilize modest CPU and memory requirements, hardware cost is minimized.
