CIC Announces Extension of Joint Development Agreement with Intel
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. — April 6, 1992 — Based on the progress achieved during the first year of the joint development project, Communications Intelligence Corp. (CIC) (NASDAQ:CICI) and Intel Corp. have extended their agreement for an additional year.
This project is targeted at realizing efficient processing of handwriting recognition algorithms and achieving low battery consumption.
The result is intended to allow Intel-based equipment to recognize mixed cursive writing input at interactive performance speeds.
''Intel's technical excellence and industry leading position will benefit pen-input computing,'' said James Dao, president and chief executive officer at CIC, ''while the open architecture of CIC's Handwriter pen computing technology will strengthen Intel's microprocessor and related product offerings by allowing them to run sophisticated recognition algorithms with minimal power consumption.
''The success of this joint project will overcome a significant obstacle to the expansion of future generations of smaller, light weight pen-input portable computers.''
The extension period of the agreement will run through early 1993, during which time both organizations plan to achieve a number of milestones, while examining the opportunity for future work.
Intel is an international manufacturer of microcomputer components, modules and systems.
CIC is headquartered in Redwood Shores, and has a subsidiary in Tokyo. CIC is a leading supplier of multi-language (English, European and Japanese) handwriting recognition software for pen-based computing.
CIC's products include Handwriter Recognition Systems, PenDOS and MacHandwriter Operating Environments and Handwriter On-Line Dynamic Signature Verification System.
