Clarion Introduces Clarion Pen Developer, Set of Tools for Creating Pen-Based Applications using PenDOS from IBM

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — November 9, 1993 — Clarion Software announced the introduction of Clarion Pen Developer(tm), a set of development tools for creating pen-based applications using PenDOS(tm) from IBM.

Using Clarion Pen Developer's visual development environment, software developers and corporate MIS can quickly create high-performance, commercial quality pen-centric database applications. Clarion Pen Developer dramatically simplifies the development process by providing a comprehensive set of templates that can be combined to create applications.

Clarion Pen Developer then generates its own source code for new applications which rival the best C compilers. PenDOS brings a broad range of pen-based capabilities, including Communication Intelligence Corp.'s award-winning Handwriter(tm) recognition, to virtually any DOS application.

PenDOS is ideal for developers or end-users that desire high performance pen computing in a low-overhead DOS environment.

"PenDOS and Clarion Pen Developer are an excellent combination," said Wally Casey, director of marketing for IBM's PSP division. "Clarion Pen Developer offers a template-driven environment for creating applications that give developers virtually instant access to the powerful capabilities of PenDOS. We believe this will make PenDOS even more attractive to corporate application developers looking to quickly and easily enter the world of pen-based computing."

According to Doug Weishaar, director of strategic partners for Clarion: "Our customers are using Clarion tools to access everything from police records to manufacturing inventory information. We're seeing more and more developers looking toward pen-based applications to offer mobile users easy access to corporate databases both for information collection and retrieval."

"We think PenDOS and Clarion Pen Developer will be very popular with the more than 60,000 developers already using Clarion tools and with other corporate application developers."

Clarion Pen Developer includes: Clarion Database Developer, Version 3.0, a template-driven visual prototyping tool that produces source code for complex applications interactively and incrementally;

Clarion GUI Kit, gives applications and X-Windows/Motif the look and feel with only one line of source code; and the Clarion PenDOS Library Kit, which creates PenDOS executable files, and supports features such as radio buttons, browse, free hand draw and erase.

Database drivers are provided which allow seamless data interchange with all Xbase applications, Paradox, FoxPro, Clipper, Clarion and Btrieve.

Clarion Pen Developer will be unveiled at Comdex, Booth H344 and available in December at a suggested retail price of $1,295. For more information on purchasing Clarion Pen Developer, call Clarion at 800/354-5444, ext. 105.
