Interlink Electronics and CIC Partner to Bring an Integrated Electronic Signature Solution to Adobe Acrobat 4.0 Documents
CAMARILLO, Calif. — November 2, 1999 — Interlink Electronics Inc. (Nasdaq:LINK) today announced that it is partnering with Communication Intelligence Corp. (Nasdaq:CICI) ("CIC") to provide an integrated electronic signature solution for use with Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) 4.0 documents.
Utilizing Interlink's new ePad(TM) pen input device with CIC's Sign-it(TM) signature software, this solution will provide a means to capture electronic signatures within Acrobat 4.0 documents on networks, corporate Intranets, and over the Internet. Designed to enable online approvals and facilitate network document automation, the turnkey electronic signature solution will be available this quarter with an average cost of less than $ 100 per user.
"We are pleased to establish a strategic partnership with Interlink Electronics to bring an out-of-the-box signature solution to users of Adobe Acrobat 4.0," said Mike Sullivan, VP Business Development, CIC. "The main barrier in Business-to-Business e-Commerce has been the requirement for signatures, which introduce paper into an otherwise electronic process. This solution completely eliminates the need for paper with a return on investment (ROI) after as few as two to three transactions."
Joel Geraci, Product Manager, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Systems Inc., commented, "A growing number of companies are realizing the value of integrating paper and the Web for increased efficiency and reduced overhead. We are pleased that Interlink and CIC have partnered to help Acrobat 4.0 customers leverage the benefits of secure, cost-effective electronic signatures. As a result, firms will be better able to deploy enterprise level workflow solutions more quickly and at greater cost savings."
"CIC is emerging as the market leader in secure electronic signature software for e-Commerce and Internet documents," said Roger Moore, Vice President of Technology and Marketing, Interlink Electronics.
"It is our product strategy to partner with industry leaders like CIC to more quickly bring to market solutions that meet emerging demand. Given Enterprise and Internet acceptance of Adobe's PDF file format as the choice for professional documents and forms, our electronic signature solution is expected to find broad acceptance upon its release."
ePad Electronic Signature Pad
Interlink Electronics' ePad signature device uses the Company's patented VersaPad(R) semi-conductive input pad technology to ergonomically emulate the natural feel of signing on paper. In addition to capturing the line shape of electronic signatures, ePad records stylus pressure and time-to-sign data required by more sophisticated applications such as signature binding and biometric identity verification. ePad is a Windows '95/'98/NT "Plug-and-play" input device.
Sign-it Software For Adobe Acrobat 4.0 Documents
Sign-it for Adobe Acrobat 4.0 is a next-generation application from Communication Intelligence Corp. that enables Adobe Acrobat PDF documents, the defacto standard for document exchange, to be used in secure e-Commerce and workflow automation systems by empowering these documents with an electronic signature. Using the Digital Signature component of Acrobat 4.0 PDF documents, Sign-it binds the electronic signature with the document.
The electronic signature, then, is only valid within the document signed with the contents that were approved at the time of signing and cannot be used in any other document. An optional upgrade from CIC enables secure biometric authentication of the document signors.
