Intel licenses Fourth Wave’s Wireless Messaging Technology

SAN FRANCISCO — August 24, 1993 — Fourth Wave Technologies has announced today that Intel Corporation has licensed Fourth Wave's wireless messaging software as a part of LANDesk Manager v 1.5 software, also announced here. In addition to LANDesk Manager's powerful network monitoring and management capabilities, wireless messaging broadens its functionality by automatically alerting LAN administrators of network conditions via alphanumeric Pagers or other message receiving devices. Network service personnel, who are highly mobile and often unreachable by telephone, can now be directed to the appropriate situation needing attention. LANDesk Manager continues to play a major role in minimizing network downtime and inefficiencies.

"The addition of wireless messaging capability to LANDesk Manager v 1.5 is critical for keeping mobile LAN administrators in touch with network vital signs," said Brett Walker, Product Line Manager for Intel LANDesk Manager. "LANDesk Manager with wireless messaging capabilities provides a more complete solution, ensuring the day to day viability of networks."

"Incorporating WinBEEP's core wireless messaging technology is a natural extension to LANDesk Manager's ability to provide instant access to critical network information," stated Tim Hudson, President of Fourth Wave Technologies. "Tools like this are essential to enabling workers to get the right information to the right person at the right time, no matter where they are."

The technology Intel has licensed is a core part of Fourth Wave's wireless messaging product line. Fourth Wave's currently shipping WinBEEP and WinBEEP for Networks are the leaders in Windows-based PC to Pager software. These products are built on an open development architecture allowing any Windows application to be 'page-enabled.' Fourth Wave's mission is to bridge desktop and mobile computing with software that weaves converging technologies into the fabric of day-to-day productivity. This advanced technology utilizes business communication tools such as pager, one-way and two-way wireless data communications, portable and hand-held computers, along with network applications which enable more effective communication.

Fourth Wave will also be developing other wireless messaging LANDesk Manager-ready applications and extended API's that will fully exploit the current WinBEEP family of products providing even tighter integration to Fourth Wave's Wireless Enterprise Server strategy and architecture. Additionally, Fourth Wave's direction is to provide products which will also receive one-way wireless data and involve complete two-way wireless solutions utilizing RAM Mobile Data, ARDIS, CDPD (Cellular Digital Packet Data) and other future wireless infrastructures. Fourth Wave also supports the INTEL Wireless Modem on the RAM network with its WinBEEP connectivity add-on for two-way wireless paging in conjunction with US Wireless Corporation's wireless service bureau. Users will no longer be bound to normal phone lines in order to get a message out to someone carrying an alphanumeric pager. They can page from a taxi, the airport, or virtually anywhere there is RAM coverage.

Note to Editors: Intel Corporation is an international manufacturer of microcomputer components, modules and systems.
