U.S. Wireless Corp. Sends WinBEEP Messages to Motorola InfoTac on ARDIS Network

LAS VEGAS — November 15, 1993 — U.S. Wireless Corp. Monday unveiled a new service that enables users to send alphanumeric text messages to the Motorola InfoTac using the ARDIS two-way wireless packet data network.

The service works in conjunction with Fourth Wave Technologies' WinBEEP family of products.

Service Description

Using Fourth Wave's flagship Windows paging software, WinBEEP, users will compose and send messages to U.S. Wireless' mobile and wireless service bureau. U.S. Wireless will route the messages to the ARDIS two-way wireless network for delivery to the InfoTac.

In addition to its role as a two-way modem, the InfoTac now becomes a stand-alone device able to receive text messages. "It is now as easy to send a WinBEEP message through the ARDIS network to a Motorola InfoTac as it is to send a message to a pager," said Tim Hudson, president of Fourth Wave Technologies.

"This service certainly increases the versatility and usefulness of the InfoTac. ARDIS, Fourth Wave and U.S. Wireless are equally committed to bringing relevant wireless solutions to the mobile marketplace and this application represents our efforts to achieve this goal," explained Jeff Buckingham, vice president of U.S. Wireless.

According to Rob Euler, vice president of ARDIS: "We've selected U.S. Wireless and Fourth Wave as partners because of their combined ability to enhance the value of our nationwide wireless two-way network. This new package of services aimed at the InfoTac user will continue to strengthen ARDIS' position as a leader in providing wireless solutions to mobile users."

The new service offering is being demonstrated at Fall COMDEX. Pricing and specific service to be announced during the first quarter of 1994.
