RadioMail Offers Worldwide Wireless Fax Delivery Service
SAN MATEO, Calif. — January 31, 1994 — A wireless fax service that allows users of RadioMail two-way wireless messaging to have their messages delivered in facsimile form to locations throughout the world is now available from RadioMail Corporation.
The new RadioMail Fax Service lets RadioMail subscribers send faxes from RadioMail-equipped platforms — DOS and Windows notebook and laptop computers, Macintosh PowerBooks and DUOs and Hewlett-Packard palmtop PCs — to any standard fax machine.
Ed Forman, RadioMail vice president of marketing, said, "RadioMail Fax Service is a major step toward making the mobile professional fully functional away from the office. With RadioMail wireless messaging and fax, users can communicate with anyone who has an electronic-mail address, pager or fax machine. And when the user needs a hard copy, he can use the fax service to print one out on the nearest fax machine — he needn't have a printer accessible or carry printer-connection paraphernalia for his portable."
Dr. Harry Saal, president and CEO of Smart Valley and a RadioMail Fax Service user, said, "Since I spend so much time away from my office, RadioMail Fax Service comes in very handy. It lets me send the same message to both e-mail addresses and fax machines, radically increasing the number of people I can reach easily with RadioMail. I find my productivity greatly enhanced."
Sending a RadioMail fax is identical to sending a RadioMail message; the user simply enters an extended address field that includes the phone number of the destination fax machine (e.g., 4152867801@fax). Individual and company names also can be specified in the address field.
A unique feature of RadioMail Fax Service is the ability to send messages simultaneously to a combination of e-mail addresses and fax numbers, so the user need not resend a message multiple times. In addition, fax addresses can be added to standard alias lists and message distribution lists.
Upon successful transmission of a fax message, the sender automatically receives a confirmation report indicating time and number of pages delivered. If the transmission is unsuccessful, the sender receives an error condition message containing the reason for non-delivery.
RadioMail Fax Service customization options allow users to personalize their transmissions with preferred fonts and individualized text on the fax cover sheet. They also can specify omission of the cover sheet, low-resolution fax transmission, and the number of times a connection will be attempted.
Current RadioMail subscribers need no additional hardware or software to use the RadioMail Fax Service. An inquiry message sent to [email protected] provides all information necessary to use the service. New subscribers can order RadioMail Fax Service or any RadioMail service by calling 1-800-597-MAIL.
RadioMail Fax Service is priced at $.99 per page for domestic transmissions. International transmissions range from $.99 to $4.99 per page depending on destination. The cover sheet is sent free of charge.
RadioMail Corporation operates a wireless two-way public gateway that provides messages and information to intelligent portable computing devices equipped with radio modems; messages also can be sent to pagers and fax machines. Subscribers are assigned a Radio Mailbox(TM) in RadioMail's computer center, enabling them to send and receive messages over the RAM Mobile Data and ARDIS two-way wireless networks. Subscribers can communicate with users of a wide range of public and private networks, including corporate mail systems such as Lotus cc:Mail, public access systems such as MCI Mail, ATT Mail, America Online, Prodigy and CompuServe; and the worldwide Internet.
