Wireless Telecom Launches Sales Channel for Wireless Data Products, Services

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — February 8, 1994 — Wireless Telecom Inc., an integrator dedicated to wireless data solutions, Tuesday announced that it has established a specialized sales channel for wireless data communications products and services.

Wireless Telecom (WTI) provides qualified resellers with single-source access to mobile computing and wireless data communications products, application software, carrier and gateway services, education and technical support.

The company also announced it has signed agreements with leading vendors in the wireless data market, from product manufacturers to carrier service providers. Under the terms of these agreements, WTI will offer the following:

— mobile computer devices from Compaq and Hewlett-Packard

— wireless modems from Ericsson Mobile Communications and Compaq

— wireless wide area networking software from AirSoft

— transport service from ARDIS and RAM

— gateway services from RadioMail

— wireless POS terminals from U.S. Wireless Data

WTI has been authorized to remarket IBM's family of Thinkpad products. In addition, WTI is in the process of completing an agreement with Apple for its line of mobile products.

WTI also is in discussions with cellular service providers Ameritech, BellSouth (including paging subsidiary MobileComm) and NYNEX.

On the reseller side, Wireless Telecom has signed agreements with the intelligent Systems Group (ISG), a national consortium of 51 network integrators accounting for $1 billion in sales; Cordless Computer Co., a Palo Alto, Calif.-based reseller that specializes in integrating wireless products and services for large corporate customers; Future Now, based in Cincinnati, the largest corporate end user reseller with nearly $1 billion in annual sales; Government Technology Services Inc. (GTSI), based in in Chantilly, Va., the leading reseller of microcomputers, workstations, and related products to the Federal Government market; and Random Access, based in Denver, a $220 million reseller.

In addition, the company has agreements with national system integrators EDS and Perot Systems to serve specific customers with specialized wireless data solutions.

"Wireless Telecom represents the missing link between vendors, carriers, resellers and their customers," said Jim Ciccarelli, president and CEO of Wireless Telecom. "As an integrator focused exclusively on the wireless market, Wireless Telecom provides resellers with a road map connecting manufacturers, software developers and carriers to meet mobile customers' needs."

Wireless Telecom Fills Gap in Wireless Market

The mobile computing market, much of which is synonymous with the wireless market, stood at 36.7 million users in 1992, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Wireless data technologies have progressed in advance of a coherent distribution channel strategy. Resellers who want to sell wireless data communications must go to separate sources for mobile computer devices, communications hardware and software, application software, carrier services, gateways, and information services.

In addition, they must integrate the disparate pieces themselves as well as provide support for multiple vendors. Vendors and carriers, in turn, need to provide extensive investment and training into the reseller channel to ensure that their products will be sold with the right services.

To ensure its single-source competence, Wireless Telecom provides full integration services, including compatibility testing, configuration, reseller training and certification, technical support, consulting and warranty services; distribution for wireless data products and services; and customized development of both horizontal and vertical software applications designed to boost the functionality of current and future wireless data solutions.

"The alliances announced today encompass some significant segments of the wireless market, but they are only the first examples of the agreements we have in the works," said Rob Balgley, vice president of sales and marketing at Wireless Telecom.

"Wireless Telecom takes an objective approach to technology. We are evaluating every conceivable product and carrier technology, including packet radio, circuit-cellular and CDPD, to ensure that we provide a truly comprehensive source of wireless solutions to our customers."
