Telxon Adds Wide Area Network Communications to Pen-Based Computers with Motorola Data Radio Modems

SAN FRANCISCO — October 27, 1994 — Telxon Corporation (Nasdaq: TLXN) announced here today it will integrate three Motorola (NYSE: MOT) data radio modems into its powerful PTC-1140 pen-based computer systems to facilitate communications over the ARDIS(R), RAM Mobile Data and other wide area packet data networks.

Telxon, a world leader in handheld microcomputer technology and wireless data communications, said PTC-1140s will be available with Motorola's 405i, 415i and 435i data radios.

By incorporating wide area network capability for real-time communications with Telxon pen-based systems, subscribers can utilize wide-ranging applications such as electronic mail, messaging, sales order entry, inventory management, service dispatching, public safety programs, insurance adjusting and transportation management.

The PTC-1140 will be mated with the model 405i for communicating over the ARDIS network in the United States, as well as in Canada, Australia and Asia. The model 415i will be incorporated into Telxon units that will utilize the Modacom network in Germany and the MOBITEX(R) networks in the United Kingdom, France and the Netherlands.

Communication over RAM's service in the U.S. will be with PTC-1140s utilizing the Motorola model 435i.

RAM's wireless data service is based on MOBITEX, a proven and highly reliable communications technology designed exclusively for wireless data communications. MOBITEX is based on open, non-proprietary interface protocols, facilitating compatibility among devices produced by different manufacturers.
