ARDIS PersonalMessaging Available on Motorola’s Marco Wireless Communicator

LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill., — January 4, 1995 — ARDIS today announced that ARDIS PersonalMessaging(SM), the company's two-way, interactive wireless messaging service, is available on Motorola's (NYSE: MOT) new Marco Wireless Communicator.

With ARDIS PersonalMessaging on the Marco product, users of the hand-held communicator will be able to send and receive messages anytime, from virtually any location using the ARDIS nationwide wireless data network.

ARDIS PersonalMessaging is designed to address the wireless communication needs of mobile work groups who require cost-effective, real-time communication. The service addresses the needs of mobile work groups in a wide range of industries, from Fortune 500 executives to small dispatch-driven service and repair companies.

Wireless communication takes on a new dimension when ARDIS PersonalMessaging is packaged with the Marco product's embedded wireless modem and its robust Newton(R) Intelligence. "With ARDIS PersonalMessaging, doctors, consultants, sales executives, lawyers, construction companies and countless other mobile business work groups can communicate with the speed, reliability and efficiency formerly available only to those willing to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in proprietary wireless solutions," said Rob Euler, vice president of business development for ARDIS.

ARDIS PersonalMessaging is a feature-rich alternative for current users of alpha-numeric pagers who feel restricted by the limiting nature of one-way messaging. Cellular phone users will also find ARDIS' nationwide automatic roaming and cost-efficiency a plus when compared to the limitations of wireless voice services.

ARDIS PersonalMessaging comes standard with fully automatic nationwide roaming, eliminating the need to call in before traveling outside service areas. With ARDIS PersonalMessaging on the Marco wireless communicator, costly roaming charges are eliminated — sending a message in Chicago costs the same as sending a message in Los Angeles, New Orleans or Billings, Montana.

ARDIS PersonalMessaging also features "sender-pays" two-way messaging. The person who sends the message pays for sending it, while the message receiver pays nothing. The service also provides "reply request" charging, allowing the sender to offer the message receiver the option to reverse charges for the reply message.

Real-time communications with ARDIS PersonalMessaging means virtually instantaneous, interactive data conversations. On the ARDIS network, message transmission occurs in fewer than six seconds on average, nationwide.

The ARDIS network also features store and forward capabilities. When a message recipient is not on the network, this feature allows the network to store the message for up to 72 hours. All stored messages are delivered when the subscriber accesses the network.

ARDIS PersonalMessaging also includes the following network services:

— Two-way messaging — This core service allows any subscriber to communicate wirelessly with other subscribers to the service anytime, from anywhere in the country.

— Alpha-numeric Paging — This function allows subscribers to receive a page from any telephone. A numeric page can be sent automatically from any touch-tone phone or an alpha-numeric page can be sent by accessing an ARDIS operator. Both alpha-numeric and numeric pages can be sent by dialing 800-55-ARDIS.

— Wireless Fax — Subscribers can wirelessly send a fax message to any fax machine in the country from their mobile device. When the fax is received, a wireless confirmation message is sent to the subscriber, acknowledging fax delivery.

— ARDISchat(SM) — Created specifically for the Marco wireless communicator, this software application is designed to enhance electronic conversations by scrolling both sides of a conversation across the Marco product's screen, making conversations easy to follow. ARDISchat also enables the user to store a large number of quick, pre-set messages and send one by simply touching the screen, allowing for speedy conversations.

In addition to Motorola's Marco wireless communicator, ARDIS PersonalMessaging is available on Windows(TM), DOS, HP Palmtop, Macintosh and Motorola's stand-alone InfoTAC(R) Messenger. ARDIS PersonalMessaging allows Intercommunication across these platforms.

ARDIS PersonalMessaging is available in a variety of pricing options on the Marco wireless communicator ranging from $39 to $299 per month based on customer usage patterns.

ARDIS PersonalMessaging is available through hundreds of ARDIS- authorized agent locations nationwide. To order a subscription or to receive more information about ARDIS PersonalMessaging on the Marco wireless communicator, call 800-OK-ARDIS.
