CE Software Announces MobileVision

SAN FRANCISCO — January 4, 1995 — CE Software today announced MobileVision(TM), an application that provides QuickMail(R) users wireless access to their mailboxes via the Marco(R), Motorola's new Wireless Communicator. MobileVision, initially available for QuickMail, the No. 1 selling Macintosh E-mail system, will soon be available for both cc:Mail and Microsoft Mail as well.

With MobileVision, users send and receive messages from the road just as they would back at their offices. Users simply turn on the Marco Wireless Communicator, and their messages are instantly, and automatically downloaded to the device — no dial-in is required. MobileVision eliminates the need for two mailboxes — one at the office and one on the road.

"With MobileVision, the term remote user becomes obsolete," said Ford Goodman, president and CEO of CE Software. "CE Software has redefined mobile computing. With MobileVision you are always on the LAN."

New Age in Mobile Connectivity

Once a MobileVision user turns on the Marco Wireless Communicator, a signal is instantly sent to the nearest ARDIS wireless tower. The tower forwards the signal to the InfoTAC radio transmitter located on the QuickMail server. Mobile users can have all their incoming messages sent to their Marco Communicator or they can establish parameters for forwarding messages using MobileVision's server-based rules. Rules can be set-up to send only those messages that meet the sender, recipient, subject, priority or date criteria set by the user.

MobileVision rules can be modified either at the office or from the road. For example, imagine a regional sales person had originally established a rule that only urgent messages would be forwarded to her Marco Wireless Communicator. However, now she has been delayed at the airport and would like to read all her mail. With MobileVision, she can seamlessly change the predefined rules and download all her mail.

"MobileVision for QuickMail is just the starting point," said Goodman. "Future releases of MobileVision will deliver access to other leading LAN-based mail systems."

TeamVision

MobileVision is CE Software's first TeamVision product. TeamVision is an enabling technology which provides the infrastructure necessary to allow users to use any workgroup application with any database or mail system. TeamVision has both mail and database components.

MobileVision 1.0 is written to CE Software's Quick-Messenger Application Programming Interface(API). Future releases of MobileVision will use CE Software's TeamVision enabling technology and will be completely interoperable across all platforms. MobileVision will take advantage of the E-mail systems users have already invested in by offering VIM, MAPI, and MHS interoperability. MobileVision will extend wireless access to other non-mail applications by utilizing the workgroup application development platform provided by TeamVision.

Requirements

MobileVision requires a Marco Wireless Communicator, MobileVision client and server software, an InfoTAC radio transmitter, an ARDIS account, and a Macintosh server running System 7, MobileVision for QuickMail also requires QuickMail 3.0 running on a Local Area Network.
