GeoWorks Announces New President and Chief Operating Officer
BERKELEY, Calif. — June 28, 1993 — GeoWorks announced Monday that Gordon Mayer accepted the position as president and chief operating officer reporting to Brian Dougherty, chairman and chief executive officer of GeoWorks.
The position will be effective as of July 12.
Mayer, prior to joining GeoWorks, was president and CEO of InfoChip Inc., where he restructured the company from an aftermarket supplier of board-level products sold through a retail channel to a fabless semiconductor company supplying products through an OEM channel.
Mayer also held the position of vice president, Marketing and Sales, for Proxim Inc. At Proxim he was responsible for strategic and corporate direction, product positioning and sales.
Most recently Mayer was at Merrill, Pickard, Anderson & Eyre, a leading venture capital firm in the Bay Area. He was responsible for assisting the firm in evaluating and selecting high-growth technical companies for its investment portfolio. He holds a bachelor of science and a master of science in Engineering from Purdue University.

GeoWorks, with its partners Casio, Tandy, Palm Computing, Intuit and America Online announced the Zoomer Personal Digital Assistant at the June Consumer Electronics Show in Chicago. This was GeoWorks' first publicly announced partnership and product, clearly showing that GeoWorks' vision will become a reality this year.

Mayer replaces Dennis Rowland as president and COO and will be responsible for all day-to-day activities for the company. Dennis Rowland will assume responsibility as CFO and vice president. Also reporting into Mayer will Tony Requist, vice president, Engineering; Chris Noble, vice president, general manager of Developer Products; Lee Llevano, vice president, Corporate Marketing; Rick Dalmazzi, vice president, general manager of the OEM Division; Jim Goldberger, vice president, general manager, US Consumer Products.
